where to stay

3 posts in this topic

Help i am taking my boys camping next weekend the 8th. Parents are wanting to go as well but they would need a hotel in the area. Due to the wonderful thing we all have coming age. I have only camped up there twice around cut foot and seally. Also if there is a better small lake/motel/campground for roughly 7-10 people who lave to fish not picky just need to keep kids from getting bored. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out stuff on the Winni site.

A nice compromise would be Beckers Resort on the Minnissippi west side of Winni. Resort is in the river sheltered...cabins are quite resonable and they have 8-10 campsites right there. You can camp and have SWIMMING pool, playground, hand dipped ice cream,HOT showers etc.

Fish the super BARS not far or in the river.

A nice side trip...Forest History Center in Grand Rapids.

WE LOVE WINNI.

You may want to check out the Gosh Dam place. You could camp where you always do and your parents could stay there. They might have a room(s) available. Good people. Good food too!!

There are two main spawning spots on Vermilion that I know of. I'm near the one on the west end of Vermilion. The walleye haven't been as good on this end yet they don't pull any fish out from here. They've been pulling walleye out of the east end spawning spot in Pike Bay, and for some reason walleye have been doing better over there.   I have no doubt that there are many variables that go into the equation, but you can't ignore that the end they put the 10% back into has been doing better than the one where they leave it alone.

Are there any updates for the area?  It sounds like crappie fishing is good in the shallows on Fishtrap.  I heard Sham is fighting high waters with no end in sight....

Trolloni - Do you write it that way to actually troll us?  Creel/lake surveys show Vermilion is very healthy and the DNR continues to use new technology.  It's only going to get better.  If we listened to old, arm-chair QB's, fishing would be as shi#TY as the West side.

At least10% of all eggs hatched at the Pike River Hatchery are returned to Vermilion waters every year. According to DNR statistics that percentage is usually a much higher survival rate then if they had let the walleyes spawn naturally! I consider that a good trade off! Cliff

They should not be  going  back to area waters or traded to  other dnr  districts they should go right back into LAKE VERMILLION !!!  Don't ya think its time the dnr   should start to listen  to the paying public, us ! [trappers, hunters,  fisherpeople ,boaters and snowmobilers ]
