New member here from SW Minnesota- been fishing alot this year haven't been catching to much yet. Mostly because I have a 4yo little boy with me. Glad I found this place, always been looking for a forum like this for SW Minnesota. I usually fish Sarah, Shetek, Summit by Hadley or East Twin by Ruthton.

Welcome to Fishing Minnesota. It would be great if you could make it to the get together and we could meet you and your family.

If you have any questions in regards to this area for fishing, just fire away.

I agree with AlwaysFishing--you can come down in line weight for braid if you're just straight up bass fishing. I personally like 30lb if there are a lot of toothy critters around. I use 50-60lb when going after pike and muskie. Have you ever tried fireline for your spinning rod? When jigging, wacky worming, etc., I use 8-12lb fireline exclusively--you can feel EVERYTHING and no stretch is an added bonus.

Very high expectations. Especially that splake...36 inches would be 2.5 inches longer than what the state record is.

Good for him holding that big pig.

Going to hit it tomorrow. Haven't decided where we will but in at the junction or head towards birchdale. Have heard varying fishing reports. Any info is appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

I was up for my first trip to RR on Wednesday and Thursday. Launched at Birchdale Wednesday morning because it was the only one open. Launched at Vidas on Thursday.  Fished the ice edge as it pushed westward for some of both days with minimal success. Caught a 28.5" and 26.5" on consecutive casts on Wednesday but not much other action at ice edge.  We had our most success at the connection of the Rapid River (just west of Vidas Landing). Caught about 45 walleyes total with a 28" and 26" being the biggest from that spot.  We also hooked up with 15 sturgeon, landing 4 of them. A 66", 60" and finished the trip landing two sturgeon in the same net (a 42" and 32", or so).  It was an amazing experience and I will be back again in the upcoming years!
