Minnetonka near Mound?

4 posts in this topic

I'm going out on Minnetonka for the first time this weekend (exciting). I'll be putting in near my dad's place in Mound off 15 by Phelps Bay. Any recommendations for the surrounding area? We'll be targeting crappies and possibly some largemouth, smallies, and walleyes. It will be an all day event. I have a smaller 14ft with a 15hp, so I CAN cover some water if need be. Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Try Black Lake/Bay, its small and sheltered from the big cruisers, and some good crappie action.

I didn't get over to black today but we had a blast around big island :-)

Trolled a bit but no bites.

how did you do? and how was the launch?

I was able to launch at the small landing down past Al and Alma's and park at my dad's, so launch traffic was not an issue whatsoever...lucky me!

We hit some bays and channels and a few smaller bridges. Rounded up plenty of sunnies and gills, couple crapps, and one 17" eye. Did more cruising around than anything else....it was a fun day on the water.

Much different lake from a week ago. Snow on shores and ice in reeds. Water temps were down quite a bit. 42 in main lake 45 in shallow bays. Had a few followers on spinner baits but no hits.

Went fishing for a couple hours yesterday. Water temp was 48-50. It was a nice day to be out on the water. My arms and neck are a lovely shade of red to prove it. Make sure you're smarter than me and toss a tube of sunscreen in the tackle box before you head out.

Smoked up 4 for a test and really good!  Quite different than the crappies. Nice and oily and the skin peels right off. Scales are pretty big so a bit of a mess but easy peasy.

I attended an event Saturday out of Everts. Eye bite was really slow for the 20 boats but a few nice fish were caught. Got into a buncha white bass at the end of the day and it was game on.   Brined some overnight and smoked em up to try them. We thru cranks and swim baits all day.
