Father Hennipen park.

4 posts in this topic

I'm heading up 6/11 for some camping. The lakeside spots at Father Hennipen are available. Is it a sand shoreline? I was just wondering if I could beach the boat during the day while we eat or do I have to haul it in everytime.

Thanks

Ron

I have camped there numberous times, but went from the site to the boat lanunch and back.

I believe they do have a beach there, but i have never been over there...much less if you can pull your boat up on it?

I have to admit, that people are very trusting in the state park as far as leaving gear laying around. I still wouldn't let my boat sit somewhere unoccupied. Then again, i just dont trust anyone. grin.gif

I wouldn't beach your boat there unless you want serious scratches. Pretty rocky and shallow, but yes it is mostly sand. The boat landing is great and close to camp.

I know this is an Ice Fishing thread, but I can't seem to find much information on ice condition on the lake or how the snow looks out there and on the trails. I live down in the Duluth area and was thinking about coming snowmobiling up there this next weekend. Seems the whole states in a stupid heat wave. But you guys had more snow than us before, was wondering if there's still enough to snowmobile.

LOTS of traffic on the Hole In The Day access over the weekend.  It degraded noticeably from Saturday to Sunday.   There are two paths heading out.  The one going straight ahead has a bit of a ridge at shore that longer houses/low clearance vehicles might have a little trouble with.  The one to the right is angled and doesn't have the ridge but developed a hole at shore Saturday night.   I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse but probably will before the weekend.  We were planning on being out overnight before the contest but plans seem to be changing.  Especially since it was reported that a vehicle went through by Hunters Point over the weekend.  Hunters Point is on the Southwest side of the lake but makes my wife leary of taking out truck and house back out even on the Northeast end where the contest is.   Sorry for the bad news.  I'm still crossing my fingers and will check the access again this week.

Very nice fish! Thanks for the heads up on the ice cleats. Do you know how the access is holding up with this warm weather ?
