River Fishing

6 posts in this topic

I am looking for a good place to river fish(from shore) for walleyes on the days where the wind is too bad for taking out the little boat on lakes. I live in mankato, so if anyone knows anywhere to try on the minnesota, blue earth, or le seuer your advice would be much appreciated. I am not looking for boat fishing spots because i dont feel like losing a lower unit on the river. Thanks everyone.

Without giving any specifics, just look for water inlets, creeks, fresh water springs.

When I lived in Kato I'd hit Sibley park where the Blue Earth and MN River run together. Also try below the Rapidan Dam. There are serveral spots along 169 all including 7 mi park(or is it 9mi?), Kasota, and Ottowa. Plenty of river action to be had in the area. My best advise would be to put in the time at several locations to see where you have the best luck. Good luck and have fun!!

thanks for the info guys. i have tried below rapidan dam and have only caught small channel cats. there is no where there to get away from the really heavy current. i will try looking around for some inlets to fish on the mn river.

Try Land of Memories out by the South Bend Township. Been out there few times this last weekend on the windy days and did manage to catch a few eyes along with some catfish. So it makes it fun.

Go to Sibley or Land of Memories. I have always had good luck. Move around though, some spots are better than others.

I scored a set of Striker Hardwaters for 25% off   bibs+coat. I fish early ice alone, decided to pull the trigger on a warm suit that can float if I end up breaking thru.  That crowd was insane. Happy to see the big turnout. All of the TV dudes were roaming around too, talking with ppl and taking pics. Had a great time and I'm happy to see how big the ice fishing community is getting. Just stay away from my holes!!!     jk. Looks like we could be gaining up to an inch of ice/day in metro lakes if this forecast holds.

I was thinking the same thoughts, I saw the pond by my house locked up, figure someone will be sitting in front of the courthouse before you know it..

I have to add that my buddy has had the Eskimo propane auger and loves it, he has a season and half using it and it hasn't given him any problems.

I've had an Eskimo Shark for a few years and I love it, I'm not a fan of the aluminum handles on it, they have given me an issue or two but customer service is outstanding. Can't comment on the EVO, other than  I think they are gimmicky, but I love their six sided insulated hub. Works great for my family trips or just going out by myself. Sets up easy and there is a ton of room.
