Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Massive Pike

Apparently this was caught without being hooked - it would not let go of the "small" northern that was! Caught on a river in Canada. 55lbs 56 inches - the pike it's eating is 36 inches.

Top fish is not the same as the bottom fish.. and its was caught on hook and line.. and was caught across the sea. I want to say Holland?... The top 2 picts are not connected at all to the bottom pict, and have been floating around the net for a year or so now.. Still impressive fish!!!

Just say NO to Canada, But Yes to HOLLAND. grin.gif This picture has been around more times and the location keeps changing. I have even seen it on the "braggin" board in gander with a photoshop face job. I think it has officially been proven to be caught in Holland. It is a nice fish though.

FOund it.. from Rob Kimm

Quote:

The bottom photo is a pike from holland caught by Ewout Blom in March of 2006. 127cm and 19.4 kilos, which works out to right around 50 inches, and just barely shy of 43 pounds...

The top photo has been floating around for at least a couple of years.

There are several more photos of the Dutch fish, plus a bunch of other BIG Dutch pike, in the fall issue of The Next Bite - Esox Angler Magazine.

Thanks for clearing it up Deitz. I knew the pics were real, but wasn't sure about the story. Would be fun to catch it anywhere.

Another clue the bottom one is different is the color of the water reflections. Bottom photo is not a cloudy day like like the top two.

I have even seen those pics up in a local bait shop that the owner said a guy brought in and was with when it was caught. He told the owner that the guy in the photo was his cousin and that the fish was caught on the rainy river! Man, the rumor mill sure does run rampant!!

There was a list in either In-fisherman or Field & Stream recently about world musky / pike records and the U.S. isn’t even in the top 20. I don’t even think Canada was in there. Makes you want to catch a plane.

All right, now who was the wise guy?!?!?!

I just was watching the Channel 5 Morning News and they were showing pictures of fish that viewers caught over the opening weekend. Lo and behold, what is the big fish picture winner but our favorite northern pike photo, with some guy named Larry catching it this past weekend on Rainy Lake. The news anchors and weather guy kept going on about how could he get that thing in the boat, so on and so on. I almost felt sorry for them, ah, if they only knew.

If you're on this board, Larry, fess up now, and congrats on pulling a fast one on Channel 5.

Oh boy, here we go again with the Blom pike. I have recieved that picture in emails for a year now. It has been caught on Red, the Rainy, Lake of the woods, Mille Lacs, St.Clair, Erie and even one email that stated it was caught on reservation waters? confused.gif

i emailed them also, hopefully they wise up a little. KSTP isn't the most accuarte news source. They have a history of running with just about any piece of garbage they think is interesting whether its fact or in this case fiction.

But I guess they don't see the need to fact check a simple fishing photo.

If it was caught in MN it was an illegal fish. The guy holding it is breaking the law just by holding it for the pictures! I too have seen those photos, long before this years opener!!

The Zander photo is rediculous. There is a black line around the fish and for goodness sake there are two front fins. Very poor PhotoShoping, That is hilarious.

I've gotten a lot of eyes this year, this being my best. Several in the 24" range and a LOT of eaters. A buddy and I took my mom out fishing and we got our limit of eater eyes in about an hour and a half. Good times!

Let us know how it goes. I have a cabin on Linwood just off Whiteface. Be nice to find good spots in the area, seeing as for whatever reason I never fish Linwood...

What a morning jigging on one of the best, fastest bites of the summer for me Tuesday morning of this week.  I had a guide trip but they cancelled that morning and I almost stayed on shore. Since I had the boat in the water and everything was set I went out by myself to check out a couple of spots.  I didnt get very far

Anyone have any good news or been up there lately waz up  over the Fourth of July did OK nothing to brag about a few walleyes  or any other lakes around the area not looking for hotspots or nothing trying to catch a few panties

OK thank you thinking about going up first week in September

Low water continues to be the issue on the Red. Below the dams still remains sketchy so use boats at your own risk.  The fishing remains stable, similar to last week in that the fish are spread out but in the holes in the middle of the river.  Short 15-20 minute sits on spots keeping the bait fresh looking for the active catfish.
Bait is still heavy to frogs and frozen suckers with goldeyes working some but it seems that frog and sucker are the best.  As water cools down I suspect fresh sucker will come into play as well.

I used to have many fields but some guides came in and pay for the fields. I am down to 3 farms but they don't have any small grains this year. So I am going to take the early season off. As I know the geese will use some ponds to rest and I have access to them so I will wait until the regular season to pick off a few geese.
