Heading Up For Opener

4 posts in this topic

My buddies and I were just discussing what time to leave for the lake on Friday. We've decided around 1pm. Out of curiosity, when's everyone else leaving the cities on Friday? We hope to get up there around 3-4pm, depending on gasoline lines, bait lines, etc...and of course that one person always being late at the meeting spot where we will take off from.

I usually leave in the AM on Friday. That way, you beat most of the traffic, get to the cabin and settle in before heading to the lake for the midnight opener. By the way Irish, did you go to Jefferson??? I am from Bloomington, 88 Grad of Jefferson... Dan

Tonight! A guy has got to get everything ready and set to right. Unfortunately, I have to return on Sunday and then head back up on Thursday night for the opener weekend.

Agreed.  One thing that drew me too lakers was their mysterious nature and the places they live.  Kind of a sacred type of fish.   I also agree the DNR will basically ignore any additional specialized management until an organized group starts advocating for lakers.  There just hasn't been a large enough following up till the past few years like you mentioned.   So, what's next?  It seems like laker fans are here to stay.

How are folks dealing with this warm weather spell? Are you still fishing even though the temps are well above freezing? At what point is ice deemed unsafe?

Well it looks like Recycled Fish is under new leadership! I talked to them and they say that they will have the shirts back for the 2017/2018 fishing season

That's what I have been reading after more research I will probably replace my thermal with one when the time comes but for now I am looking for a smaller lighter house I can use when by myself. Better than canvas craft is saying something!
