24V Upgrade Question

7 posts in this topic

I'm upgrading to a 24v trolling motor. I have a Marinco plug installed that was operating at 12v, so switching the plug and getting to 24v is easy.

What I'm wondering is if I can still hook up a depth finder to one of the two batteries I'll be using for the trolling motor to supply power to the device, instead of running new wires back to the starting battery? Can one battery in a 24v system supply just 12v to a device, even when the trolling motor is running?

You can draw 12v supply from either battery. Just hook up to one of them.

I changed from a 12 v system to a 24 v system. My Lund has a power plug installed, can't I just pull the wiring off of my old trolling motor and put it on my new one or is there a difference in the plugs?

I would suggest getting your 12 volt supply off of the negative battery feeding the 24 volt system less chance for interference that way.

It depends if its a 2,3, or 4 prong plug.

If I'm understanding you correctly and the trolling motors wiring and plugs are the same yes it should work.

Yah!  The foldable ones you can.    Or, if you don't get a roof carrier you could just leave one hanging out an open window or the hatch like you're making a lumber run.

They are BITING - bugs that is - har!   Bass have been very good some days and slooooow on others. Bugs have been awful last few trips. But the dragonflies have hatched out so they will be putting the gobble on the black flies and mosquitoes so things should improve.   Walleyes have finally showed up on the bank. Bass have been there awhile now. Went to Pelican one day and got some largemouths. The special regs there have really helped the bass fishing. Crappie are in spawning colors at several different lakes I have sampled this last week. Everything pretty much shallow but did get some walleyes in 15 FOW,

Nobody needs that kind of grief.  I hope he's able to overcome that in short order.

Yes. Casey did sell his new boat and retire from guiding, at least for a while. He has been having serious shoulder and neck problems that have interfered with his guiding abilities. Hope that he gets this problem remedied soon and is able to return to guiding! Cliff
