Lake Francis - BIG BASS / Lake Lily

4 posts in this topic

Though some of you Bass anglers would like to know that Francis does have some huge bass. As I was out crappie fishing last friday, I landed a 7lb & 6lb bass on a red crappie hook and crappie minnow. A buddy of mine also landed a 7 1/2 lb bass off of his dock on Sunday.

Also, I'm not sure if any of you ever fished Lake Lily, but there was a major die off on the lake this year. I'm not sure if any fish survived. Anyone hear anything about lake lily??

Nope, not on the eastern side of the lake. I was in Wagners bay, sometimes referred to as kaplans bay. If you go into wagner's bay, go the the very northwestern side of the bay. There is a very narrow and shallow entrance into some back water, which is only around 1 -2 feet deep, less in some spots. This is where you can really catch the crappies before they start spawning. And there are obviously some huge bass in there right now. Later....

We did not go all the way out this weekend so I can't say for sure where 'most' were fishing.  Since you can literally go anywhere, there were no real "concentrations" of houses that I saw.  Everyone was spread out real nice except I did see quite a few houses fishing in closer to Pine, near the snowmobile trail, based on the distance (maybe a mile or mile and a half out?) I would guess they were "shallow" and not out to the basin.  Distance can be tough to judge so this is my approximation.   Some friends road sleds WAY north and were surprised that shortly after they set up a suburban came from the south and fished near them.  Like I was saying people are spread out.   Adrian's road now only goes out 11.5 vs. the 16 miles they were out a week ago.   Good Luck!

Was on the boat Sunday got a little further past the 49 bridge. Is the 22 landing opening up at all? Anyone know how much ice is even out there? I would think we made a little.

      February 27th, 2017:
We just got back from checking the river about 4:30pm and the temperature was around 28 degrees.  They are calling for some colder temps at night for the next few nights and we noticed with this change of weather it has caused the open water at Birchdale to freeze back up.  I could not see much open water when looking east at the Birchdale Landing.  When we went to Franz Jevne the water seemed to be moving pretty fast and it was still open there.   The photos where you can't see water is Birchdale Landing showing it froze back up and the ones with water are from Franz Jevne
