Today I was out fishing in my kayak. The only boat on the lake, out in the middle fishing an Island. A 16foot alumacraft comes barrelinging, and throw its anchor no more than 8 feet from me. It was the rudest thing that has ever happened ot me on this particular lake. I was furious to say the least. They could have flipped me over!

The whole point to this thread is to NOT have to deal with it. Aholes should not be given a boat license. grin.gif

CanoCorn,I guess I need to explain what that go where all the boat coment ment. If you would have gone out to the lake. you would have saw about 30 boats in a 1/4 mile stretch some fishing shallow some deeper. most of the boats were not in casting distance of each other and the ones that were apeared to be friends. so when I told that guy to go where all the boats were it was more of a general area and hopefully he would know not to fish on top of another person.

Ok here I go I have been reading this thread for sometime and have now decided to post. For starters is there not a ten foot limit to how close you can put your fish house to another or is it just a curtious thing to do. There should be a limit to how close you can get to another boat like 50ft because of the whole safty reason. But when it comes to fishing the shore and people come right up next to you to fish just cause you caught 1 fish really sucks ecpeshaly when they come in numbers and then they keep the little ones even though there is not a size limit but yet they have to #%$#@ cause they cant catch a nice fish. EXCUSE MY WRITEING AND NO PUNCTUATION AND SPELLING IF YOU DONT LIKE IT STICK IT UP AN INTRUDING BOAT

LOTWSvirgin, There is a law about putting an Ice house within 10 ft of another. Refer to page 59 of your regulations from the '06-'07. Second, there are restrictions on how close you can be to another boat while at any other speed than idol. Idol speeds don't protect the "space", but they should. For example, look at Big Island on Tonka during the summer. Over the years how many people have died out there because of boats running into each other or people getting run over? That's just pleasure boating. The rules should be clear, 30ft at all time, unless you are planning to join boats (case: DNR, family, friends). I don't think it will ever be perfect, but people need to use some common sense. Some of these people shouldn't be allowed to operate a boat.

All the stuff about casting over lines of people that are to close, buzzing their boats, spraying em with prop wash and all the other stuff, one thing I haven't heard mentioned?

If your gonna do any of these things, you best be prepared for the possibility of a little hand to hand back at the landing!

If everybody was a peach, we wouldn't have to worry about the infringers, but since they are not, it could result in a couple of knots on someones gourd!

Myself, I have the perfect solution for those that get to close....I have a Captain Morgan outfit in my boat, along with a 3 foot cutlass...I have a Jolly Rogers skull and crossbones all ready to fly.

Someone gets to close, I quickly don the outfit, hoist the colors, scream at the top of my lungs, "Avast ye swabs, I'm commin aboard!" I haul anchor, fire up the motor, gun it out of the hole, make a circle so they can see the Jolly Rogers, start twirlin the big knife over my head and bore right down on em at full throttle! At the last minute, I veer off, drop it into neutral and holler out, "Hey dere, how day bitin?" grin.gif

Yesterday, my buddy and I had a couple of encroachers spot us pulling in a crappie on a Wright co. lake and try to ease in on our position.

Up to that time, we had inconspicuously put a number of nice fish in the live well, right in the midst of heavy boat traffic, without being made.

He quickly put on this big colorful, knitted Rosta hat, equiped with fat dreadlocks and I put on a Harpo Marx hat with a bunch of curls hanging down...we commenced to start talking real loud and crazy, swearing and laughing to beat he11.

Only took a minute or two of that stuff and the other boats decided it probably would be prudent to leave....and they did!

We not only caught a bunch of fish and some nice sized ones to, we had alot of fun doing it! It was great! grin.gif

Here's a dock story for ya.

I while back I pulled up to a our campground dock to take a break, and let the kids (and myself) swim a while. Here comes a couple that thought my boat would be a great place to set their tackle boxes and stuff. To top it off they are both smoking and dropping ashes on my carpet. Not to mention the 30 gallons of gas in the tank. That confrontation looked to get ugly, but when I asked them what they were doing, they packed up and left. I still have a hard time believing that happened.

Good Luck,

Nick

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
