It is the picture on a postcard I recently sold on eBay. There is a copyright date on the picture of 1899 - Columbia River. I wonder why they cut the tails off? Bleed em?

Captain John, did you know that in the early 1900's Rainy River shipped thousands of pounds of sturgeon and caviar yearly from Rainy Riveran up to Kenora Ontario where they were salted down in barrels and thenshipped ver to France and other European countries? The fishermen got 2 cents a pound for the sturgeon meat and 10 cents a pound from the caviar and $1 a pound for SOUNDS....SOUNDS were sturgeon bladders that were used for filtering wines.

Well that's interesting - my bladder does a little wine filtering now and then, but I'll be darned if I'll sell it!
