How Big A Boat

4 posts in this topic

Hey Fella's,

I have never fished Rainy River before, how small a boat can I get away with out there going after those sturgeon? Just wondering if I can use my 14' or if I need to barrow a buddies boat for some more size. Thanks for the help fisherman!

I believe that your boat will be fine. I've fished in a same sized boat and one even smaller.

These guys from up around the Rainy will have a better idea though. But, I think you should be alright.

Good luck!!!

A 14' will be just fine. Many people use that size boat on the river.

14' will be fine. You won't be running large distances and as longs as you have two anchors that will hold well in current(assuming we get current) you will be in business.

Take Care and Good Luck Fishing!

      make / manufacturer: Eskimo
model name / number: Mako Upgraded to an electric auger and selling my old one. Runs great and has been well taken care of. Starts on 2-3 pulls every time. I have the extension for it as well as a new set of blades that I bought but haven't needed to change yet. I also have a cabelas auger bag that it fits in.

I scored a set of Striker Hardwaters for 25% off   bibs+coat. I fish early ice alone, decided to pull the trigger on a warm suit that can float if I end up breaking thru.  That crowd was insane. Happy to see the big turnout. All of the TV dudes were roaming around too, talking with ppl and taking pics. Had a great time and I'm happy to see how big the ice fishing community is getting. Just stay away from my holes!!!     jk. Looks like we could be gaining up to an inch of ice/day in metro lakes if this forecast holds.
