There were people fishing off the pier on long lake in New Brighton. Lost of open water all around the dock. They just started as I was leaving, so I don't know if they caught anything or not.

Drove by some city lakes Hiawatha Isles Nokomis, Ice couldn't get much darker, if the wind would blow just a little bit we'd be looking at beautiful blue water!

I drove by Spring lake in Scott County tonight and it still was covered, but looked pretty weak, with cracks or water showing between. Hope it's out by the weekend so i can get the boat out.

Checked out Coon Lake today on my way home and there looked to still be some pretty healthy ice out there.

Shady Oak Lake in Hopkins opened overnight.

Bryant Lake opened as well, with just a bit of slush in the North bay that will be gone before the end of today.

Time to fire up the boats! laugh.giflaugh.gif

After work I'll be joining some of the guys with their canoe's out on some lakes. Water is good to go I believe, just need the "whoopin stick" if there still a little ice but doesn't seem like a problem. Majority of the lakes we surveyed last evening are pretty much opened up with somewhat large sheets of thin ice. Don't take much to crack and row your way through the ice channels to a good spot. They are already out on the west metro area. They said that whats been working was cracking your way to the break. The dark ice is bubbled up so it don't take much to crack it open. Caution though, the ice moving pretty good, yesterday we saw a big platet move like 40ft in 5 mins. Since no vegatation in the shallows yet, the fish are holding a little deep 10-15ft still in weed patches. Crappie minnows have been the goto. I'll try to get some pictures tonight if I can. Will be out in a gray 16 ft canoe, the slim ones. Another buddy has a green one, same size. Wave if any of you are from this site fishing. That will probably be the plan till total ice out. Thinking of also trying reel weeds. Any of you try canoing out there yet?

Prior Lake, South Access you can get the boat in the water and head out about 150 yards until you hit the ice.

Spring lake (Scott Co.) Main body of water is wide open, just the bay (SW corner)is where the remainder of ice is...no boat there for a day or 2.

Im sure most lakes in the metro area will be open by the end of this week, especially if the the forecast of rain for the next few days are accurate...

As far as I can tell everything is open. There may be a little ice on the south ends of lakes and the water is still really cold. I think the rivers are the best bet to actually catch fish. Too cold for crappie right now, unless you try really deep.
