North Shore in the boat

6 posts in this topic

Took the boat out today.(Sat 24th) Had to put in at two Harbors as the Knife river marina still has a HUGE snowbank blocking the ramp. I tried 8ft out to over 100' I trolled sticks mostly but did try a few spoons and a couple cranks but no takers. It was great to be out inthe boat again. Lots of flow into the lake. I even spent extra time around the dark water/clear water edges thinking maybe some smart fish would be hiding in the dark water waiting to ambush a baitfish. Oh well. It was still nice to be on the water. Water temp was chilly. 33.8 was best I saw.

With temps in the 60's, yesterday would have been a good day to be out. For me, my job got in the way

Even as nice as it was, it was still a bit chilly on the water.

When I was shooting at the T.H. breakwall Sunday, I saw two guys in a small boat making their way through the fog.

I've never fished superior in anything but a canoe. Looks like that guy knew what he was doing.

Going to hit it tomorrow. Haven't decided where we will but in at the junction or head towards birchdale. Have heard varying fishing reports. Any info is appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

I was up for my first trip to RR on Wednesday and Thursday. Launched at Birchdale Wednesday morning because it was the only one open. Launched at Vidas on Thursday.  Fished the ice edge as it pushed westward for some of both days with minimal success. Caught a 28.5" and 26.5" on consecutive casts on Wednesday but not much other action at ice edge.  We had our most success at the connection of the Rapid River (just west of Vidas Landing). Caught about 45 walleyes total with a 28" and 26" being the biggest from that spot.  We also hooked up with 15 sturgeon, landing 4 of them. A 66", 60" and finished the trip landing two sturgeon in the same net (a 42" and 32", or so).  It was an amazing experience and I will be back again in the upcoming years!
