Welcome to HotSpotOutdoors and FishingMinnesota.com Chris. The event was a flop due to the weather. It started raining about 10 minutes before 8:00am and didn't stop. Nobody showed, so I was forced to cancel. I did manage 1 sheephead, 1 7.5" bluegill, and 1 smallmouth. I had a few other bites as well. We were off the water shortly after 9:00am

Kinda figured it would end up like that, I am going to try and catch the rest of them whend time permits. I dont have a boat can still shore fish in the contests? Looking for a little 12-15 ft jon boat that I can afford, to use around the local holes in and around roch. Saw some at gander mtn that they may discount now that they are moving.

If you drop me an email, I'll add you to our UPLR email list. You can certainly shore fish any/all the events, but often times there are open seats in somebodies boat and I'll send out that info in an email most of the time. 12-15' jon boat is perfect sized for any body of water we have in the Rochester area.

The Lake Zumbro event on Monday August 27th has been canceled due to high water and "no wake" status.

Our next event is Monday Sept 10 on Chester Woods.

Is Chester Woods open yet? I have next week off and I was thinking of taking the kids out.

Chester is closed and I don't think it will be open soon. I heard that a little bit ago there wasn't enough room to drive a boat under that bridge that leads to the dock.

Sent off an email to the people out at Chester Woods and they told me that the lake is open for anything. The dock isn't set yet but that should be done soon.

My week isn't ruined after all!

Never made it out there yet, but plan on pre-fishing it for the UPLR for my first outing with the group. Looking foward to it as it is probably only 10-15 minutes from my house.

Our next event is this next Monday Sept 10th on Chester Woods. It will be interesting to see how the recent rains and fall temps have shifted the fish.

For more details, please visit the UPLR website here.

I'd like to point out that our event will run from 5:30-8:00. We'll be ending at 8:00 (instead of 9:00) due to the shortened days.

I'm anticipating some new competition for this event and that is a welcomed surprise.

With the weather starting to shift to its fall temps, I anticipate the crappie bite to be much better that we've found during our mid summer events on Chester.

Hope to see you there!

Looks like the rain will subside for the UPLR event tonight. There are a few open seats if anybody is interested. Open seats go to the first to contact me, or show up at Chester tonight. Hope to see you there!

The weather is not looking the best for this evenings UPLR. I'll be monitoring it and will make a decision by 1:30 today. Rain doesn't bother me, but T-Storms are grounds for cancellation.

Sorry for the short notice, but the UPLR event that was canceled for last week was rescheduled for tonight, Oct 1 on Lake Zumbro.

The event will run from 5:30-7:30 and the forecast looks like its going to turn out to a very nice evening on the water.

Please visit the website for more details.

Our Monday evening events at this point have been canceled due to the diminishing daylight considering sunset is around 6:30.

Our next event will be Saturday, Nov 3rd on the Mississippi River at a mystery marina. More details on that later.

I’ve made a few “enhancements” to the UPLR rules which are of particular interest to Mystery Marina events (bolded below). The UPLR website has been updated with the following...

- Boats (Open Water)

Boats of any kind and size (canoes, rafts, float tubes, paddle-boats) are allowed in UPLR events licensed and legal in the state of Minnesota.

Boat fishing is allowed during all open water events including Sucker Run events. The boat must be operated within the guidelines indicated for each given body of water (electric motors only, no wake, etc.)

If specific boundaries have been specified, all boats must remain within the boundaries at all times.

Any number of registered participants can fish from the same boat; however, no sharing fish.

Shore fishing is allowed during all open water events as long as you remain on public fishing grounds and within the boundaries.

- Mystery Lake

The Mystery Lake will be chosen by league officials at least 12 hours prior to the start of the event. The lake and details will posted in News and Schedule

Criteria for choosing the Mystery Lake will be determined by several factors including: safeness of ice, current hot bite, number of participants pre-registered, and weather. Email us if you have any suggestions.

Mystery Lake will be in the immediate Rochester area and it may or may not be at an existing event location. (If a Mystery Lake location is outside the Rochester area (30+ miles), this will be noted well in advance and the event will likely be on a weekend.)

If the Mystery Lake is held on a private lake, only UPLR participants will have permission to that private lake for the scheduled day of the UPLR event.

A Mystery Marina event will be held at a boat harbor marina on the Mississippi River. Boats are allowed, but are restricted to any boundaries that might be specified. Marina dock fishing will only be allowed if permission is granted by the marina personnel. League officials will communicate boundaries and permissions prior to the start of each Mystery Marina event.

This is a “Marina” event and the boundaries will reflect just that. Both the detailed boundaries and location will be released in the next day or two.

As mentioned, this event is geared to give non-boaters and an equal (or perhaps better) chance at wining.

I’ve received permission from the marina personnel that allows us to fish any of the marina docks. Please be mindful that there are a couple small boats still housed at the docks, so please keep your distance from them. I will touch base with the marina again on Friday to re-verify permission; however, if you are asked to exit the docks please do so (they are private property).

For those interested in fishing the docks this will also serve as a nice transition event between open water and ice.

For myself, the short rods and ice electronics will be present and I *think* the boat will stay dry. I’ll probably toss in the long rods for good measure as well.

The Mystery Marina is going to be Lake City Marina.

I made a nice boundary diagram with an X where registration will take place, but my work PC is down today (major issue). Basically you can fish either marina at Lake City including both sides of the rock grade and either side of the newer cement pier. I hope to get the diagram up later today and an email out to everybody.

PS. I did check with the Marina again today and we are welcome to fish any of the marina docks.

Tyler, can you post the meeting location in the forums just in case you don't get the map completed. If not, I'm sure I will find you.

Incase I don’t get the map off my computer, here are the directions to the registration spot.

You will likely have to park on the street. Start looking for spots near the intersection of Franklin and Marion streets. From that intersection basically you need to walk a short block to the North / North-East. Registration will be on the start of the sidewalk that extends all the way down the rock grade. I’m not sure that is completely clear, so I’ll elaborate a little more. Basically there is a North and South marina at Lake City. Registration will be at the North-most tip of the South marina (this point actually separates the two marinas)

Thanks Tyler. I had a great time and it reminded me how out of shape I am. I better do something about that if I'm going to be doing that kind of fishing with the auger in tow. Great day to be out there.Only sheephead for me, in the marinas and ponds north of there, for the rest of the day.

The results from our previous event at Lake City Marina are in.

UPLR Pictures and Results

We had a great turnout with nearly everybody catching fish. I'd guess over 500 fish were caught (and released) over the duration of the event.

I'll be posting information on our ice events in the near future.

Until then...
