7 posts in this topic

I am done ice fishing for the year and was wondering if there are any good early spring crappie lakes. I will be using a canoe most of the time so the lake can't be to big.

thanks for any help

If you are using a canoe, as am I. I would suggest Achmann lake on the way to Avon....There are some smaller lakes towards the Richmond area that are close to Watab and Big Fish. What I used to do to find good lakes was to just go and take a drive and as soon as you see a public access sign...stop and take a look...I did this for a few years and found some really nice little lakes...You could also try going towards Annandale.. I believe there is a lake on the way called Bass lake....Check out the DNR lake finder and browse by county....A little effort pays off greatly and you don't have to rely on someone elses opinion...I enjoyed this for many years...have fun and good luck

Got out to Lake Sag Friday night and Saturday night. The only lake that actually still had ice touching the shore. Caught some nice crappie both days then the rain came. Got wet from rain, but not from lake. So i guess it was worth it. I am going to be on this lake as soon as there is enough room to paddle. I believe I am done on the ice for the year...Good luck and thanks for other lake tip...

The ice is fine. I have a lot of standing water because my house is dark color. Come up and enjoy this weather. Ice is 24-30".a little snow left out on ice.

Nick, you did a great job finding good fish for everyone.  Wished I woulda brought at least one rod and my flasher for the short time I was there.  But it was good to meet y'all face to face.   I got a hankering for some pannies now.  Might have to look for some tomorrow.

I had the same experience today. Tons of little gills and very few big ones pike were not going on anything on tip ups today though. Wasn't fishing your area but figured I'd chime in. I had anywhere from 17-29 inches of ice with some water on top ice is great yet.

Still plenty of good ice on Bartlett Lake today. 16" where I was at. No standing water on the ice yet. The shorelines were in good shape, too. Too bad it will probably all be trash by Tuesday.   The bluegill were biting well this morning, but for every decent sunny I had to throw back about eight potato chips.   The Northern were slamming tip-ups baited with shiners. Too bad for me I brought suckers. I caught a couple Northern, and a 16" largemouth as well. I would have liked to get out to the airport lake tomorrow morning (after a trip across the river to get some shiners  ), but I have other things to do. The backwaters around Winona will just have to wait until next December.
