Canada Ice Fishin

3 posts in this topic

Hey it's kinda off the charts as far as duluth-ely-arrowhead goes, but I'm makin a trip to nipigon in ontario this weekend for the first time. Any reports from that area? Or, any hotspots/tips to try?

Aimin' for lakers, heard they grow big in those waters. I made a call up there last week and talked to a guy who said he had one on that wouldn't fit through an 8" hole!!!! So, I decided to bring my 10"!!! grin.gif

I'll post any reports when I get back if anyone's interested.

Thanks

Josh

Yup, Those fish get real big up there. I would suggest drilling 2 holes side by side and chiseling the middle out. You dont want to mess around with those big honkeys on the line. I was up in Canada this past weekend-Not where you are going, but up there. Fishing was kind of slow (check out my post "Thats All Folks" here in this forum) Even still, we landed some nice fish. Truck travel in SW Ontario is probably pretty slow going right now-they got a foot of snow up there Sun. night, but if it warms up later this week, you should be OK. Call up there to be sure. Get ready for some good action and alot of fun!

Let us know how you did!

Justin

Thanks for the ice report, Sculpin.  With the weather forecasted for the upcoming week, I'm sure I'll be up there next weekend, hopefully walking out from the northwest side.   van, yeah, I hear you.  I've been up to LOW a few times, and it is very fun to know there's the chance of catching a monster....but driving all that way for a bucket full of 12'' fish?  Not my cup of tea. I'll save the money and buy three dozen T-bones to make it through the winter. I'm sure people who know the lake better than I do have done better on the weekends I'm up there, but the reports at the resort we used were pretty similar.    I like the northwest side on ML because it's where we've been for almost 20 years, but it also has close access to sand, rocks, whatever weeds remain, mud flats, transitions, etc. The only thing we don't have up there is extensive gravel.

I'm curious to see how this works out. Do you plan to keep the battery warm while not is use on the water?
