The Swap Meet is coming along wonderfully.

We have 18 guys signed up so far. The Hall is full. We are over flowing into the parking lot with tables not to mention the larger items that will be out there already.

The Twig Hockey Association is letting us use their side of the building so we'll have plenty of room inside.

Today Skippers Kid will plow out a larger area for parking. Thanks Tom.

Hey Steve and everyone here,

I gave the swap meet a couple of plugs today on the air. (Got a few calls on it too!) That means Northlander must now guide me on a Spring Smallie trip! Yes, I am inviting myself. And I have no shame doing so! wink.gif Good luck with the event tomorrow!

Big Walleye, after being on the Brule today I thought about coffee instead of pop. By all means, I will leave that up to you. Thanks for doing that!

Boy there is a lot of good stuff at the Swap Meet already.

Heck Val has enough boat parts to keep us all in good shape just by himself.

If your a big lake troller you will love the deals on spoons and sticks as well as riggers, boards and masts.

Walleye guys will find rods, sticks, cranks, nets and spinners.

I also hope I make enough to pay for what I will probably find in the outcome.

See evryone at 8 am sharp. If you snooze you will surely lose! grin.gif

Oh and dont forget to spend $2 and have a chance at winning a nice rod and reel combo ( Thanks Scottie and Fishermans Corner) along with some line and St. Louis River killing spinners. wink.gif

First of all, i would like to say thank you to everybody that put this together, it was a great time, good to see people getting rid of stuff they don't need, and others buying it right up. I picked up a set of resharpened blades for my hand auger and walked out with a steal of a deal on a new power auger. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this. It would be great to make this an annual event.

I would also like to thank everyone who put this on. Frank did a great job with the hall and outdoor showings, Northlander with the raffle and SK with the plowing and everything else these guys did. The turnout was better than I expected and all had a pretty good time. I saw a few people with burgers and they were some of the biggest I've ever seen, thanks to cheffrey I think the scouts did OK on the sales. Again thanks to all, I made a few sales but the day and meeting oher FMers was the highlight.

I agree with you guys. It was a great turnout with people as far away as Bessemer, MI in the UP. I purposely arrived late so that I would not find all of the GOOD stuff, and from what I hear there was a lot of excellent deals to be had. I look forward to the next one. Thanks, Frank, Steve, Tom and Tom for setting this up.

WOW is right! If you snoozed you losed. grin.gif Im not a English Maojor I know.

I couldnt believe how many people we had from 7:30 (knocking down the doors) til about 10:30. It was wall to wall elbow to ---hole. The late comers found some good deals as well but the cream of the crop was pretty much done before lunch time.

Im proud of myself as well because I actually made money but still came home with a bunch of goodies. Frank how many ice houses can a guy fish at one time? Are you going to license them all? wink.gif

I was glad to see so many FMers and outdoors people coming through the doors. UMD that was me you got those auger blades from. I hope the drill ya plenty of holes.

Once again I really want to thank the people who donated time and goodies to our event.

1st off Surface Tension for getting the hall and Skipperskid for plowing. Great job guys.

Cheffrey, Shiner and Grand Superior Lodge for all the great food/pop.

Randy Marnich and Super One for all the fresh buns and Ketchup/Mustard.

Scott at Fishermnans Corner for the Rod/Reel/line raffle prize.

This raised a bunch of money for the Scouts too!

Thanks to all the guys who donated rods/reels and tackle to the kids fishing events. I cant remember all your names and dont want to leave anyone out so Ill leave it at that.

For sure we have to do it again next year. I think we need a bigger space though. See everyone then.

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

👍. What was the water temp in Black Bay? Thanks....

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
    • smurfy
got mine done........for the cabin.....ready for summer festivities!!!!!!   there was still frost in the ground...........but good gawd are the lakes low!!!!!
    • CigarGuy
      Just 1, 50" muskie🫣
