So what is the story behind your choice of avatar? Mine is just a simple big fish story on my favorite lake.

I just like to shuffel through various pics. In fall I had a pic of me and the kids with some geese, this one is of a 'eye I got ice fishing on LOTW, hopefully I'll get a pic of a pannie in the near future, and then hopefully I'll get a pic of an 'eye after the opener. Just change my avatar as the various seasons progress. smirk.gif

Just one nice eye I hooked on the Rainy River a few springs ago. BDR was behind the wheel and camera that day.

Mine is from my last perch trip on Mille Lacs Feb. 24th.

It might look like the video repeats, but really I was hammering them left and right...What a day!

Oh, if I look a little jaundice (yellow) that is because I traded one of my livers for a portable ice shelter the week before the trip.

My dog's sight pointing a robin in a shrub. Pretty good style and intensity for a pup.

My two kids doing the "Fishies" dance around the minnow bucket. Needless to say the wife doesn't appreciate the dance that much. It is performed in the garage now, that is until the boat hits the lake

Mine is a picture of me before the opening kick off of a football game against Red Rock Central from my Junior year, came back in the second half from 18 down to win that one.

I really should get something up from the championship game in the Dome, or maybe something of a fish.....

Ummm... I guess its just a catfish. tongue.gif

Actually, it was the biggest cat in the boat that remarkeable weekend last June on the Red River. 40 cats in 2 days fishing for a grand total weight of over 600 pounds. Unreal! I think we had 6 cats over 20lbs.

First big catches, even if dwarfed by later catches, are always memorable. Thats what this one is.

I started bass fishing only a couple years ago. This pic was of a 3+ pounder in the first year I started that I pulled out from under a fallen tree trunk in 3 feet of water in Mink/Somers on a wacky rigged 4" black senko. It was a hot, windy summer day, and the sun was just tipping over the treetops. This is the fish that sealed the deal for me and my bass addiction. My buddy Greg snapped the shot. Since then I've done most of my bass fishing alone, so my bigger fish don't have photos.

Two December birds, my favorite time of the year to hunt roosters. Snow and heavy cattails.

Out of all my hobbies, hovercraft is my #1 passion. It's turned into more of a life style than a hobbie. Someday I hope to turn the passion into a profession either through going into business (would sponser this site, of course smile.gif or working in the field.

The craft in my AV is the last craft I designed and built.

This avator is a tribute to Buster who after 12 years and 10+ months passed away February 9th. Best pal a guy could ask for and a true joy to be behind in the feild.

Before this I've always had some of my best biggest critters just for something to have on there. Oh I guess I had my race car on there for quite a while too...

One of my favorite things on earth, walking in on a dog on point. I won't say whether or not I hit the bird. grin.gif

Not my biggest but this was the 2nd fish of a 2 fish day, and it was a Tournement. I think my heart rate was at about 140 in this pic, that was a good day.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
