What would you do?

4 posts in this topic

I have 2 nephews, age 14, and 8. Plenty of ice fishing gear, but no auger, no portable, and my 4x4 is on the fritz. The marcum works great. Before the start of April I'ld like to get those boys up there. What do you think, A day house out deep, Then move to a shallow house at night? Are there shallow sleepers? Gonna need some action to keep them interested. I am thinking of a sleeper house simply to cut down on the travel/set-up time to the spot. Any thoughts?

Zipple Bay Resort has just the set-up your looking for. They have their sleepers in shallow for the a.m./p.m. bite and will take you to a deep house during the day. They are great people and will treat you right. Better call soon and get something lined up.

Good luck....

Sounds like putting the gear away wasn't a bad idea. Didn't relize the ice has deteriorated that much. Guess I've been to caught up in thinking about summer. Sounding like maybe get the boat out next weekend hard to say yet would like to get it on the water first as possibly taking it to lake superior in a few weeks. Thanks all for the reports keep em coming. Ooh forgot drove past crow wing lake yesterday and the north side was melted a ways from shore and away from the reeds. Just in a few hours the ice turned from white-black to dark black. With the temps forcasted it shouldn't take long now.

You got to stop by! One of the best fisheries as far as multi spices lakes in MN. The fish that come out of big V can be monsters. With that being said the scenery all over the lake is like none other. It's truly one of the most scenic lakes I've ever fished really makes you sit back and really enjoy what nature has to offer.

I'm hanging it up for the season as well. Yesterday we hit 371 bay of North Long. The walk in was a bit spooky. The ice is very rotten. It takes about 8 toe kicks to make a hole hole through the ice.    With that being said, the 371 bay is the first of the area lakes to freeze and first to melt. So, I think it's reasonable to say that a guy can still get out on larger lakes, like Round, Gull, or Pelican. That's just my two cents.    It was a great year with many memoirs made. Good luck to those that still make it out, and again, be safe!

My goal is to fish Vermilion again someday.   I keep driving past it.
