Surplus licenses available March 19

10 posts in this topic

I notice on the DNR website that surplus turkey licenses are available March 19th. Any hints on applying for them? Are you better off going to a license agent and having them do it or applying online yourself?

I know alot of hunters apply successfully online, but I also know from personal experience that there seems to be a higher chance of problems doing it that way. So my personal preference is still going to an ELS agent.

Try to get there well ahead of the 5:00pm start time so you're one of the first in line. Where I go, I try to get there about 30 minutes early, but it really varies by the location. Do your homework on what permit areas and seasons are available and then have a couple options to try for.

I have a question about the surplus licenses. Last year I forgot to put in for the lottery and was able to purchase a license thru the surplus for my zone as there were 200+ licenses left. This year I forgot again! I was looking at the dnr website and this is what is says:

Surplus wild turkey licenses will be offered to hunters who applied in the computer preference lottery but were not successful.

These licenses will be available on a first-come first-serve basis beginning at 5 p.m., March 19, 2007.

Does this mean that since I didn't apply in the lottery I am not eligible for the surplus shotgun license? If I must I'll just get an archery license, but I would prefer shotgun.

Thanks for the help

To my knowledge you do not lose your preference points for picking up a surplus tag.

Has anyone used the online licensing site before? I was bookmarking it last night and was wondering if there will be a link to the surplus licenses? You can go in there and fill out the info for buying a license but it seems a little confusing. If anyone has used it please add any comments. Thanks.

The ice is fine. I have a lot of standing water because my house is dark color. Come up and enjoy this weather. Ice is 24-30".a little snow left out on ice.

Nick, you did a great job finding good fish for everyone.  Wished I woulda brought at least one rod and my flasher for the short time I was there.  But it was good to meet y'all face to face.   I got a hankering for some pannies now.  Might have to look for some tomorrow.

I had the same experience today. Tons of little gills and very few big ones pike were not going on anything on tip ups today though. Wasn't fishing your area but figured I'd chime in. I had anywhere from 17-29 inches of ice with some water on top ice is great yet.

Still plenty of good ice on Bartlett Lake today. 16" where I was at. No standing water on the ice yet. The shorelines were in good shape, too. Too bad it will probably all be trash by Tuesday.   The bluegill were biting well this morning, but for every decent sunny I had to throw back about eight potato chips.   The Northern were slamming tip-ups baited with shiners. Too bad for me I brought suckers. I caught a couple Northern, and a 16" largemouth as well. I would have liked to get out to the airport lake tomorrow morning (after a trip across the river to get some shiners  ), but I have other things to do. The backwaters around Winona will just have to wait until next December.
