Long Point report / 3/3 & 3/4

1 post in this topic

We sure had some nice action on LP, limited out! Only eyes and one over or about 6lbs (gator), missed her on the first line,(broke the line) then jigged the other line and got her back, pulling her up she just bit the line again right up the hole, grabbed her out, what a thrill! The other eyes were all 14"-18/19"!!! All keepers! Released the big hog but before I did, got a nice pic.! No saugers, pout, perch or northerns, weird! Just wondering how fishing was at Gull Rock? We were thinking of heading that way on Sunday, but had just the right amount of action at Lp so stayed!! We were in around 25-28'fow...also good action till 5:30 p.m. Best consistent sized fish we have ever gotten at LP. Kids had fun!

The DNR has tried introducing lake trout into several lakes in the past 10 years or so. Most attempts have been unsuccessful (hanging horn lake for example). DNR recently increased the number of lakers stocked in big trout, but numbers are continuing to decline. I would have rather seen them cut back on the numbers stocked into burntside as opposed to stopping it altogether. The heavy fishing pressure and the predation by smelt is a tough 1-2 combo for lakers to deal with.

My brother hammered walleyes and perch . Him and his friend ended up with 70 eyes caught and kept their limit and had 30 perch from 6 feet of water.

My old man and I had fun time today even though he only added 5 gills and one crappie. I schooled my old man but we enjoyed fresh fish No worries no gills over 8 inches kept or crappies over 12
