Alright, so my brother was recently hooked on musky fishing this past summer and I've decided that his early birthday present will be a new rod and reel. Any suggestions???

hey Sweetie, i bought your bro a rod and reel recently for his birthday but if you wanted some fun ideas on baits he should get i would recomend going to the Muskies/Pike forum found higher on this page and ask the boys to post their top ten fave baits so you have a list. also i am going to the muskie expo next weekend with Dano the Jigasuarus so if you get a list you should let me know some baits you might want to get him because chances are i can find some rare or custom colors at the show. Oh and I'll ask him about the colors. Any suggestions on other fishing gifts I could get him, now that you've covered my main idea?

If you still want to get him a rod/reel combo, go to Thorne Bros website. They have a Fenwick HMX rod with a Garcia 6600 SSC3 reel for 159 bucks. Great deal. You can choose from the rod lengths and such. Baits are always a good thing as well, since you can never have enough of them! grin.gif

Find out what he has for lures already and just build off of that. The basics of a few bucktails (Eagletails, Mepps Maribou, Cowgirl, Grinder, etc), topwaters (Topraider, doc/jackpot, creeper), various jerkbaits (Suicks, bobbie baits, mantas, amma bamma, burts) and crankbaits. Can't go wrong with them!

I had a battery op Repala a few years ago and sold it to someone else at our campground. Didn't like the way they just zipped through without following the fillets and lost a lot of meat. Really suk's on a partly frozen fish!   Mine came with a case.
