Joel will be putting on two turkey hunting seminars at the Lakeville Gander Mountain stores for both beginners and advanced hunters alike. Seminar dates and titles are as follows:

Friday, March 23rd - “Spring Turkey Hunting – Basics of the Beast”

Friday, April 6th, “Spring Turkey Hunting – Advanced Tactics for All”

These seminars will start at 7pm, and run approximately one hour. Topics will include, but are not limited to: wild turkey biology, calling, hunting tactics, breeding phase periods, shotgun/archery strategies, and other Minnesota-specific turkey hunting information.

Joel will be available before and after the seminar for any questions you might have. See you there!

Dave:

I'll be attending smile.gif

There will be a few folks from our local NWTF chapter, as well as a few guys I've talked to from the forums.

I'll have a few hunting DVDs there for giveaway, and I think you'll find the seminar helpful. See you there!

I attended the seminar on Friday and Joel does a great job covering everything a hunter needs to know. I hope others take the time to attend the advanced one. I ensure even the best turkey hunter will take a little something home. I know I did.

Does anyone know of any other seminars in the area yet this year?

I was planning to either go to this one or one in mankato at Scheels on saturday by another member of this forum but my wife got sick and I had to stay home all weekend. frown.gif

Just to let everyone know I do see that Joel has one on Apr 6th but it says that it is "advanced Tactics". I was looking for more of a beginners course for dummies like me smile.gif

Dave:

If willing to drive to Cannon Falls, feel free to attend the DNR Turkey Clinic I'll be putting on. This will be more for beginning hunters, and includes some take-home information you can look at and have at your disposal. Cost is $5 for this one.

Let me know if you want more information, and thanks,

Joel

Thanks to all of you who attending the first seminar! Your DVD's are in the mail as of this morning.

Please look into attending the Advanced clinic where I'll be addressing these topics, as well as answering whatever questions you might have:

-Sit and Wait vs. Run and Gun - the Hybrid approach?

-Advanced Calling

-Hung up Gobblers

-Advanced scouting

I also plan on having several topics that I'll cover a few of, pending the interest and vote of the folks in attendance.

My hope is that some veteran turkey hunters attend this clinic, and help make it more of an open forum for some advanced turkey hunting discussion.

Again, I plan on giving away some hunting DVD's to those in attendance.

See you April 6th!

Joel

--Anyone else have some topics they'd like to see covered? Suggestions???

Joel, could you tell me what topics were covered in the 1st one?

Dave:

We covered:

-Turkey Biology/Behavior

-Basic Calling

-Weapon of choice - preparation

-Hunting strategies

-A day in the woods

There were several questions that got a bit more advanced, esp. those regarding topics on pressured birds, roosting, etc.

I plan on going over these topics again, as well as gauging the audience to see which topics are the most important to them.

Again, I urge you to attend the DNR clinic this Saturday morning for a much more exhaustive beginners course. I will be spending 3 hours, rather than 1, covering quite a bit of information on spring turkey hunting.

Thanks,

Joel

The last of the Gander Turkey Seminars is tonight at 7pm, hope to see you there!

In this seminar, I'll be discussing some more advanced topics, specifically:

-Subtle Calling - Tips and strategies

-Adv. Scouting

-Hung-up Gobblers

-Tuning your hunting to the breeding phase

I'll also try and solicit some scenarios from hunters in the group, and we'll try to discuss some tactics for particularly bad birds. Show up tonight and we'll all talk some turkey!
