Thanks Kelly, Patsy & Jonny.

I've visited these people for some years now and just wanted to say thanks again! I came up last Thursday, by myself and started fishing at 1:30 and by 3:30 I had 9 crappies and one 15.5" walleye (10-12 smaller and larger walleyes released). At 5:30 Patsy stopped by to see how I was doing and we bothjust laughed. We met the other two for an adult beverage at the Tall Tale's Bar. Great people serving and great fun. Left the next morning catching 20 crappies and 30 walleyes. No walleyes over 20", biggest crappie 14.5".

Thanks again!!!!

Sounds like you had a good time.

I am calling Kelly for a sleeper house today -- What was the hot hook and color?

I caught almost everything using a bobber. One set at 6" from the bottom and one 18" from the bottom. I caught walleyes and crappies at both depths. I'm partial to red hooks and I add a Phelp's white (chartreuse)glow tube. That's what was on my dead sticks, and they out fished jigging. I jigged with an assortment of jigs and colors, but the hook & tube did the trick. After I had my crappies, I set 7" - 8" sucker minnows down 4' off the bottom and caught 3 walleyes just under 20" in length. I had 3 northerns on my 4 lb. test but never got one to the hole. Close but no cigar.

Good luck!

Yes sir! 8ft-9ft rods seem to work the best IMO.

4/23/17     Crappies still biting in west Metro area lakes. Water temp in the mid 50's now, and the fish are moving a little shallower. We caught tons of 8 to 11 inch crappies in about ten feet of water, with some weeds on the bottom. Fished a jig tipped with a Powerbait minnow about four feet below a slip-float for great success. Some sunfish starting to show up in the same areas. Water temp probably won't rise much this week with the forecast of cooler temps and quite a bit of rain, but as the water does warm fish should continue to move shallower and get more aggressive. Check out my You Tube channel for some short video clips and a full length show about springtime crappie fishing. Good luck, and I will see you out there somewhere.
