Detroit Lakes Area???

4 posts in this topic

I just joined the forums this week and am trying to receive and give some good info on fishing in and around the Detriot Lakes area. My family has a cabin and Little Floyd lake in DL and was wondering if anyone gets out there? How they are doing and what they are getting? I have only been up there once early this winter and caught some nice panfish and smaller northerns on the weed lines on the westside in 12 feet. I also went to White Earth Lake and didnt do anything there caught one tiny Walleye. So i am just trying to get some info on the lakes around that area. I like to fish alot of differents lakes, anyone with info.? Good Luck to all. Im coming up that way this weekend.

I wish I could give you some good info but I have not been out for a couple weekends...but I just wanted to take a minute and welcome you to the Forum. I am sure a lot of the other regulars will be able to answer your questions. Anyways, welcome!

Cliffy.

Try DL in front of the pavillion for some good fishing. Most people over look it because it is town. I fish it a lot. Last satuday I stopped there after sitting on Hight of Land all day and picked up a very nice too big to eat walleye who promptly went back to his wife/husband underwater.

YOu could fish a different lake everyday and be busy for months within 30 miles of DL. Good Luck

Welcome to the forum. There are soooooo many lakes to fish in the area, and just not enough time to fish them shocked.gif. If you look for lakes off the beaten path that don't get hit hard, you can be rewarded. You'll get plenty of tips on this website, thats the great thing about it.

Thanks. So it hasn't changed much then. Still might go give it a whirl!

If you haven't read it yet, a couple of slobs are about to ruin it for the rest of us. Pick up your garbage and respect private property. The land owners who allow access to the lower sucker river are about to shut it down because they are so fed up with it. http://minnesotasteelheader.blogspot.com

With the wind being fairly strong today I opted to hit the back waters of Little Rock. Have done goid there in yrs past.... so I figured it would be worth a shot. Finding crappies was pretty easy, they were holding tight to the brush and downed trees. Finding crappies over 8inches was tough...lol.  I don't think I broke 9inches. But did manage one big carp. Guessing right around 30in, pulled me and the yak all over the lake before I got it boat side

Hit the one down by Watkins a couple times this winter. There were a lot of people that fished it this last winter. Got gills and crappies of all different sizes. If your looking for keeper size fish, other area lakes will provide better numbers. Haven't been on the other one of  in a few yrs. There were good numbers of 6-7in sunfish if I remember right.

Looking to get a different depth finder for my boat, one with GPS and side imaging. I have $650 to spend, and have found a new Helix 7 SI and a used 998c SI HD with about 800 hours on it.  They both are $600.  Which one would you get and why?   Thanks!
