Hey everyone, i am not big in to pheasant hunting have done it a couple times. Mostly a bow hunter, but i am curious to see where you would suggest going to over thanksgiving week. I am only going to hunt a couple of days and i was curious to see if anyone new of a public land around the maple grove area that was pretty decent or within 30 miles? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated as i dont know what to look for in public lands or even begin to look for in a public land that will hold pheasants. Thanks

Pretty tough that close to the metro. I would recommend finding the biggest patch of cattails you can find and wading right in to the middle of them. Prolly better off putting a few more miles on your pickup.

Unless you have access to private land you're probably not going to see the birds you'd like to within 30 miles of Maple Grove. You need to drive at least double that to get into rooster country that has enough public land. If you have the time drive 2-3 hours west and really get into pheasant country. That's what we do, even for day trips. It's worth it for you and the dogs. Get a DNR map or pick up a MN Gazeteer map book and look for concentrations of public hunting lands. You're going to want to go west in my opinion, but I know people who hunt the few spots north near Cambridge and do all right.

Good luck!

Anyone come up with a good way to store the dinette table when fishing? My IC has two holes under the dinette and I put it outside to fish but it is sooooo cold when I turn it into a bed to go to sleep. Thinking of a bracket to hang it inside but I don’t really want to block a window? Any ideas? What do you guys do?

Went by there today and noticed a few house setup in the contest area.  What happens to them next weekend? They are told to move or get kicked off a public lake? Should have gone to a different lake there Wanderer. Just saying. My son and I today.

There have been signs there for a long time,   maybe 30 years?

Good for him making those signs I enjoy his views in a nutshell!

Access is in good shape at Hole in the Day.  Ice is in good shape and travels MUCH easier than last year.  But that was due to slush getting rutted and refrozen.  These warm temps might play that way again.  But for now all is well. Fishing though... the evening walleye bite was short like usual but finicky for us.  1 - 14 inch eye iced and one other lost.  Set line and shiner was responsible for the 14.  The hooked and lost fish was on a spoon with minnow head but I had to let it hang still for the commitment.  I had several other lookers but they just wouldn’t eat it.  Two lines became one but no bump!  Nice day to be on the lake.

Been past there many times, never was able to read the whole sign since slowing down could get a guy run over.  Thanks.
