All Season

I am writing a paper on the all season license and the pros and cons. My opinion is that this license is unnnecesary. What are your opinions?

It is a fabulous thing the DNR has done.

While I am not currently a bow hunter, it lets me hunt both rifle and muzzle loader season.

I am curious as to why you think it is unecessary?

I agree it is fantastic. I can hunt all 3 seasons. This year I'll only get in Archery and Rifle but that's because I didn't know about this license soon enough to save up for a muzzle loader. Now that this license is available I'll be getting a muzzle loader for Christmas. I hunt during the muzzle loader season anyway but always had to use my bow. Once I finnaly get my muzzle loader I'll be able to contiune to party hunt with my father who does ML. I think it is a great license.

actually on the dnr website it says you can party hunt with it. In our area we used to be able to hunt a lot of land because we were one of the few who went muzzle loading. Now nearly everyone in the county has the all season license, which makes our hunting a lot more difficult and i don't see the need to shoot 3 deer. Its bad enough already with people who go buy their wives tags and then shoot the deer themselves. I can see why you guys like it but it just doesn't benefit me in any way i hope you can see where im coming from. No offense to anyone.

They pulled that non-party hunting thing last year or the year before.

I love the all-season as well. Gives me all 3 seasons to hunt. (archery, rifle, muzzy)

PS- I dont shoot any more deer than I would if I didnt have the all season as an option. Most people that I know feel the same way. I still take one or two deer a year, and thats it. Most of the time its just one.

I think that this is the best licence availble and have purchased it ever since it has started. I also didnt bow hunt until this year with it and it lets us choose to selective harvest a buck and two anterless or three anterless deer with an option to buy int permits. Its nice to be able to hunt in lets say zone 1 opening weekend then possibly go to zone 4b and so on (except 3b).

I also like the fact that it is all season archery,rifle,black powder and I will use every option of it to spend more time in the woods. Because lets face it their is never enough time to spend hunting.

FYI My wife hates this licence because she knows that if I got it ,I'm going HUNTING!!

I also like the All Season license because I like to deer hunt, I can shoot an early season doe with my bow, I can go slug hunting, and I can still do some late season bow hunting. I love to hunt deer, by having the multiple tag option I can do it for 3 1/2 months. And I have yet to tag three deer with it in any past year. So far this year I have tagged one archery doe and I might tag one more in the late season bowhunting, if I get lucky. In that past with an archery only license, I would have been done.

I bought the multi zone buck this year for the first time. When I become a bow hunter or a muzzleloader than I will buy the all season. I like these licenses because it gives me options. I hunt in 4a sometimes we have great hunting and sometimes its lousy. When you only have two days to hunt you can get screwed up by weather, crops, whatever. I like that I can still have a chance to got to another zone and hunt again. I would like it less if the deer numbers were down but with them being over populated it makes sense.

Quack, I understand and appreciate the low numbers of the muzzleloader season too, but honestly if that's your reason to say the all-season shouldn't be in existence, its a weak argument as its basically just that it doesn't fit your desires and so its a self serving argument. The DNR wants deer shot too, so that's not a very good argument. Besides like BLB said, I don't shoot anymore deer with this than I did without. I just don't need the extra meat!

Sutty you make a great point. I think the absurd two day 4a season is one of the biggest reasons the all season is good generally speaking in this area. It takes some pressure off the deer by allowing for some more hunting for people who, like me, don't necessarily think its ideal to run these deer like crazy for two days and make guys shoot the first legal deer they see because they don't have time to be selective...

You need to rethink on the matter.

Pros:

1) You can hunt all four seasons.

2) You can tag deer on all four seasons(you need to purchase early doe season tags for $7.50).

3) It allows you the opportunity to hunt the early doe season (the fourth season).

4) You can take 3 deer from any lottery zones; provided you hunt with either a bow or any combination of gun/bow/muzzle loader.

5) Gives you more time to wait for a huge antlered buck. You can shoot one or two antlerless deer early in the season if you don't see any ideal bucks.

6) It provides the opportunity to hunt with multiple hunting groups. We all have friends who are in different circles.

Cons:

1) Too much time spent in the woods. (Oh, that is only a con for the wife.)

The biggest problem with muzzleloading isn't the all seasons for #'s wise your talking. It is the in-line muzzleloading that has increase the popularity of it. You can now purchase cheaper in-line than the standard traditional rifle. Plus some are more accurate. I for one love the All season. I am definatley more specific when it comes to choosing what type of deer I shoot. Plus gives me longer time in the field. I have yet to fill all tags since it has become introduced. Most traditional smokepolers hate the new in-line introduction but that is another can of worms ............I shoot an in-line.

I bought the All-Season this year so that I could finally try to get something with my smokepole. I didn't read every letter of the rules, though and was upset when I found that you can't hunt the 3B season with the All-Season. Anybody know the reasoning behind this rule? 3B is mostly intensive harvest and no lottery. Doesn't make sense.

I also think that the allseason is a great idea. People that love to hunt the whitetail deer like to do it in different ways.Wether it is with a smoke pole a shotgun or a bow you can do it all. now you can spend a lot more time in the woods which is what most hunter enjoy doing. Also some people have busy work schedules and this way when they get time off during any part of hunting season they can go and enjoy the great outdoors.

Quack you are right there are pros and cons to the All Season. What it has done is get more people out hunting.

Pros, more people, more deer taken, usually. With our deer heard the size that it is kinda important and what the DNR is hoping to accomplish.

Cons, a lot of people muzzleloaded before this license and had the woods to themselves now there are many people out there hunting the ML season. I am one that didn't do ML until the all season came along so all you people that did before, im sorry.

There are many more that can be listed and most of them are pretty obvious. I personally dont care either way. If they got rid of it i would sell my ML and just bow hunt and rifle hunt. While its still here I will take advantage of the opportunity.

I love this license. We take just as many deer as I would without it. I just get the opportunity to be more selective, and to get more time in the field. The area I do all my deer hunting in we can each tag 1 buck and 4 does. That means that 6 of us could take 30 deer. We only took 8 deer this year but are satisfied with what we got.

If I get enough work finished on the basement project that I need to have finished by my pregnant wife's deadline. I'm going to try to get a day or two in with my muzzleloader.

That gives me some serious motivation to get it done. I think next year I'll plan on actually hunting for a few days during muzzleloader season and staying close to where I hunt.

Let me reiterate and close by saying I love this license!

I like it. I bow hunt and rifle hunt and have been wanting to get into ML. I usually buy 2 to 3 bonus tags each year because I love to eat venison. I eat all of which I shoot. Having 3 tags for 78 and being able to also hunt any zone in any season is great! I have questioned the DNR on few things and things they havn't done. This is one of the few bright Ideas. I still however would change a few things. However you have to take what you get and am happy with this liscense.

Exactly.

I especially agree with #5. Each of the past three years I've shot the biggest buck of my life. I got a 12 pointer last Friday and a 10 each of the previous years. I used to just shoot the first buck I saw and then I'd be done. Now I can wait until a wall mounter comes by. To fill my freezer, I just shoot the first big doe I see. This is definitely the way to go if you want to be a trophy deer hunter and not just a deer hunter. My older brother has been shooting huge bucks for years. When I asked him what his secret was he told me two things. Try not to smell bad and buy an all season liscense.
