brief duck report

1 post in this topic

When out today around the St. Cloud area. The clouds burned off at about 9am, wind was light. Saw about 30 mallards, 20 were up high. One small flock of divers, about seven, also up high. About 80 geese, some low, some high all headed east. Same as the ducks. The mallards and geese that were low were ALL decoy shy. Moved deeks around three to four times to change to good. Calling was no use either. Hopefully, tomm. is better.

People falling through the ice on local lakes today:

I have caught them on Vermilion when the mayflies are hatching in the evening by using a fly rod with small poppers or may fly type dry flies. Just cast to the surfacing fish. A spinning rod with an Adjusta Float with poppers or flies may work even better. Cliff

I have also wondered why there are no Sauger in Vermilion. I have never caught one there or heard of one being caught by anyone else. Cliff

Thanks for the report MNfan.  Too bad fishing wasn't better for you. Good weather at least. Nice to get out this time of year.
