Daughters first Pheasent hunt

3 posts in this topic

I am planning on taking my ten year old with me on her first Pheasent hunt tomorrow. I live in the SW Metro. I was planing on heading west and south and hunting public hunting lands. Can anyone give me a report or point in the direction of some areas that might be productive. Thanks

Look at a map, draw lines from Worthington to Jackson to Windom to Marshall.

Hunt anywhere in that square.

Minnetonka, I have been out on public lands near Howard lake and Maple lake twice this past week including today. Only saw one person in the two days and flushed around 10 birds a day (not all roosters). Had my 7 month old lab out today and he is doing great! We got one today on one shot. Kicked up several birds while walking the dog through the heavy slough grass and could not see them until too late. If you walk with the dog in the cat tails and keep her on the outside I would bet she would get some good shooting. My .02. If you want to up the odds head to the area described above in the first response.

Good luck wink.gif

Leech, we're getting out feet wet then we can post within topics. Glem,  What will help you are trolling boards and rod holders.  I use a mast and main line board system but Inline boards work and a lot of guys use them and something for you to consider. Some stick baits to consider are Bombers, Brads, X Raps, Husky Jerks.  Spoons- Jim's Flashbacks, Moonshine.  Patterns/Colors- Pink, Purple, Monkey Puke, 57 Chevy, Pink Lemonade, Water Melon are just a few.  Superior is color specific like no other body of water so it pays to have a variety. Speed can also be critical in getting a strike and then you have to think about was it the rise or fall within the column that was responsible.   Last year you'd catch me at 3mph pulling sticks which isn't the norm.

Shorelander trailers are assembled right next door to Lunds. The serial # on the trailers are assigned a boat serial # after they are delivered.  All Lunds and Crestliners leave the factory on Shorelander trailers. With the exception of a dealer occasionally picking up just the boat itself.

Try giving Modern Assemblies in New York Mills, Mn a call.  They are the ones that built those seats for Lund. The can probably rebuild them for you to original. They do nice work at a reasonable price.

I've been out shore fishing a couple times at Hidden Falls and Minnehaha up to the dam.  Been really slow for me too.  Going out again this morning for the first time in a couple weeks.  Hoping to find a better bite as I've been hearing slightly better reports from boaters in the area.
