Rah! Rah! Rah! for Ski-U-Mah

8 posts in this topic

dang those Gophers are skating well so far...

Aside from that first period against U Maine, they have been playing with confidence. Those freshman are even better than I thought they would be. Okposo is a freight train, Barribal is doing better than his replacement Kessel, and Erik Johnson is holding down the fort in the rear. Wheeler, Goligoski and Vannelli have been playing outstanding as well.

Let's see what da bulldogs will bring to the Decc next weekend.... maybe little Lucia will be able to sneak one by Stalock? tongue.gif

I'm as big a Gopher puck rube as they come... I've gotta say these freshman are BIG and FAST! I'm way more impressed than I thought I'd be, now they'ree just going to get my expectations up and thats never any good. As good as Okposo and Barribal have been.. Erik Johnson hasn't really done alot for me yet... I guess the boys will be padding their stats next weekend against the doggies of Duluth. wink.gif

I've also been very impressed with Okposo. That kid was dynamite vs CC! Lucia has really cemented the team as the #1 recruiting school in the nation. That's good to see even if I'm not their #1 fan.

So far I'm surprised that the Goph's have started out so fast. Usually it takes them much longer to get rolling into play-off form. Of course they haven't played anyone yet besides the team they lost to.

I'll be at the DECC on Saturday, but rooting for the 'Dogs. Hoping that Briggs has the type of game that I know he can play tongue.gif

Anyone hear why he was suspended at the beginning of the year?

Where's Okposo been hiding? He was tough. What's happened to CC. They had their tails between their legs.

Duluth better hope their superstar goalie shows up or this will be over very quickly.

Gophers sweep 6-2 and 7-1

Hmm, super-star goalie. smile.gif

Well he does give me bouts of chest pain when he comes out of goal and loses the puck. The guy is nuts. I still think we should've given Ziegelman another chance this year.

Best the Bulldogs can hope for is a split with the way the Gophers are playing.

I'm pretty sure our boy Hauser is wearing a National Championship ring.... he was so solid when it mattered most... and thats how I'll remember him.

What does the Lake map chip run for it?

Great tip Big A.  Was in exact scenario and picked one up myself.  Right after ordered the universal Lowr. pack from cabelas.  Had a 597 on old boat that sold, loved the unit for ice, excited to see how Lowrance is this time around.  Will sit next to the Garmin in boat for GPS, not a big fan of the Lakevu

There are certainly areas on the West end of Vermilion that walleyes can spawn at. Quite a few years ago walleyes were tagged at the Pike River Hatchery and some of them were caught on the West end a couple of weeks later! So walleyes will certainly travel full length of Vermilion to spawn also! Cliff

Walleyes are known to travel very long distances to spawn.  Lots of tracking studies done on other bodies of water show annual spawning movements of 50 miles or more commonly being made.  That puts the entire lake well within range for any given walleye that wants to make a long spawning run.   My question is this...are there spawning grounds on the West end of the lake?  Or, are most of the walleyes - includng those found most of the year on the West end - traveling to the East end and running up into Pike Bay to spawn?  Has anyone caught West end walleyes dripping in eggs or milt early in the season?   Brian

I can not think of any lake in the Ely area that would have 5" of ice. Even the beaver ponds in the Tower area barely have ice on them! Cliff
