Marina fun

6 posts in this topic

I headed back out to the marina in lake city yesterday morning. I fished from about 11 til 3 and ended up with quite the catches. I managed to hook into 14 crappies with the smallest going about 8" and the remaining 13 were all 11" or bigger. Four sunnies also were caught with 3 of them being about 6-7" with one of them going 9". A 13" smallmouth also gave me a nice fight. All fish were caught on just a minnow under a float. The action is good out there and I will be sure to head back when I get back from my trip.

Good job Hanson, and nice report. I'll have to make it down there sometime and join in on the festivities.

How far under the float were you fishing?

I think I'm heading down there Sunday as well. I haven't heard any fantastic reports, but I'm going to give it a go anyways.

So I took my chances on Sunday and braved the snow on the ground. I was only out for about an hour because one of my gloves flew into the lake making my hands really cold.

The results 1 12-13" crappie and one small bluegill. However I saw some other people fishing around me who had been there much longer than I had. One group had 25-30 Crappie and the other group had a dozen or so.

You're running up against a political position here, not a logical one. I'm struggling to remember if it was Pawlenty or Ventura but one of them started to swing things heavily towards "fees" because they could argue that they weren't new taxes. I think that mentality has permeated through many layers of government by now, so I'm not surprised to hear someone from the DNR state that fishing license fees aren't taxes.   It doesn't really matter, we are paying to use something that requires money to stock and manage. Whatever it's called, it will never be free unless fishing pressure drastically decreases.

Spent a few hours on Skogman yesterday. (3:00 to 6:30)  Most of the time the vexlar was so lit up that you couldn't see the lure. Bad news is that they were very small sunnies and crappies. Fished in the area of the cluster of ice houses in  24  ft water. No fish kept this time out. Good ice but getting a little sloppy.

Another Spring-like day on Thursday. I got skunked but my buddy landed a couple of nice ones. C & R.

Very true! Cenaiko Lake had at least 100 houses on it at 7 in the morning on Saturday and it is only a 28 acres. It is absolutely packed with fish though.

Even in the metro the little bit of snow pack is insulating the ice pretty well so far. I've been out 3 days in a row and haven't noticed any significant melting. The forecasted rain for the next few days will probably change things a little.
