First Ice!

2 posts in this topic

Launched my boat today at the landing just past Windy Point bridge on Canadian side. Had to bust ice for several hundred yards to get out on main lake and also headed back into Rice Bay. This was past noon! 1/4 inch of good clear ice. Mostly gone when I cane in but I did see there was still lots of ice in the bay on the south side of highway near Reef Point Road.

I got nothing in Rice Bay except one bite off. Got 2 pike and 3 nice walleyes out in the main lake. Water was near 40 around the bridge so I was suprised to see all the ice.

I've been watching the lake on the Rainy Lake One Stop cam and you can see the ice building in the Black Bay shot.

I'll stand behind Steve's ice rods!   I was able to get a nice collection of them last week.  Some panfish rods that I hope to work out tomorrow, and some walleye/laker types that I used today.  Great feel, light, and well built.       I connected with a couple mid-20 inch lakers today and couldn't have enjoyed the fight any better on another rod.  Very happy!   Thanks Steve!

Not bad! Was the ice soft all they way through?
