Rum River Update

1 post in this topic

Finally got a chance to fish again and hit the Rum all day Sunday. Sadly, I can report that the fishing was VERY slow -for me and for everyone I talked to on the river. I caught only two smallies (dinks) in 7 hours and one small snot rocket. Water temps ranged from 53-57 degrees in various sections of the river and the water was remarkably clear. Went both north and south of the fairgrounds landing.

I threw spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, grubs, crankbaits, carolina rig, tubes, senkos - wacky style, drop-shotted, soft and hard jerkbaits, jig and pig, all with almost no success. Only thing I did not throw was lipless cranks and plastic worms which no doubt would have killed 'em....I fished the wood, the rocks, the weeds, the holes and drop-offs and the flats. I threw long and flipped short....

Not sure why it was so slow but I intend to be out there again often because sooner or later it will be jumping!

Any reports? I know there was a lot of people out there. The boomsite access was already 3/4 full when I drove by at 5 AM. I'm thinking about going out of blufflands park on Friday.

Kinda cold and windy yesterday. Fish really didn't seem to mind though. Finding ggod sized fish was the goal for the afternoon. Started off in a feeding bay that has a section of deeper water in it. This deeper water is where I found all my fish. Crappies were holding tight to the weed cover around the hole, while gills were closer to the surface. It wasn't fast fishing by any means, still I managed to find some real quality pannies

I have two Vexilar transducers.    1) Thru hull/trolling motor- used.  From FL8 2) New never used, high speed.       I looked on Vexilar's site, The one's they sell say FL8 or FL18.  Checked FAQ and they look like they are interchangeable with other models???  Can text pictures-what do you have?
