Remember to Nock another Arrow

3 posts in this topic

I was on stand tonight. The deer came in. Being Friday evening, I figured it would be a great time to get a Doe. I get 3 under my stand at 20 yards. I take a shot, and I thought I hit. Turns out I missed.

Anyway, I thought to myself to nock another arrow. Since I heard the deer I shot fall down (so I thought), I decided not to. So, the rest of the deer begin walking toward my stand! Right underneath me, at about 8 yards, this monster Doe goes broadside and stops and looks into the woods under my stand for almost a minute. IF I WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO MY FIRST INSTINCT, I WOULD HAVE HER! She was one of the biggest does that I have seen.

So, lessen learned. Hopefully, since the deer eventually walked off in a huff without spoting me, I hope they will come back in a few days.

I agree totally!!! Opener I had a doe broadside at 35 yards...missed her clean....she ran about 150 yards to the other side of the field and came right back to me to check me out.....I sat there dumbfounded as she was standing 10 yards away looking at me and my arrows were still in the quiver......as soon as i reached for one she was gone.....I still laugh by butt off everytime I think about it.

No boat this year.  Just wondering if there are fish to be caught from the shoreline along Lock and Dam 5 above Bass Camp.   Seems like a nice place to fish.  Any input if it would be worth the drive

Nailed the Crappies last night in 2-3 feet of water!!   They were all 9-10" and skinny runts for the length.   All were catch n release and topped off with a 18 64/65th " bass at dark!!  it was as close as 19" you could go with out being 19" LOL   What a rush on 4 pound test    Tried to take a pic and flash wouldn't work on phone      Cret

Leech, we're getting out feet wet then we can post within topics. Glem,  What will help you are trolling boards and rod holders.  I use a mast and main line board system but Inline boards work and a lot of guys use them and something for you to consider. Some stick baits to consider are Bombers, Brads, X Raps, Husky Jerks.  Spoons- Jim's Flashbacks, Moonshine.  Patterns/Colors- Pink, Purple, Monkey Puke, 57 Chevy, Pink Lemonade, Water Melon are just a few.  Superior is color specific like no other body of water so it pays to have a variety. Speed can also be critical in getting a strike and then you have to think about was it the rise or fall within the column that was responsible.   Last year you'd catch me at 3mph pulling sticks which isn't the norm.
