No, its not Athletic enough. How the heck would they pick a team and or have try outs? Would they drug test the fisherman? wink.gif

I like the ESPN Great Outdoor Games. Besides, the Olympics have become to "Politcally Correct". PETA would have an aneurism.

It might be hard when the olympics are held in some place like China. Would we send our best bass fisherman or walleye fisherman or what? Who the heck knows what kind of fish they have over there?

Ozzie, you are correct. The Ice fishing Championship is in China this year. The reason I asked the question was that I heard that the Bass Classic was going to drug test this year. They said it was because they are trying to get fishing in the games. I'm against it. I don't see any reason to have them in the Olympics.

Fishing has nothing to do with the Olympics. Fishing has its Olympics in all the big time tourneys.

I disagree. Fishing's Olympics are conducted, moderated, and scored by regular guys who go out and catch fish every weekend, and guides putting clients on fish on a daily basis.

Not taking anything away from tournament fisherfolks, but that style of fishing is pretty far removed from the world inhabited by most of humanity.

How you judge a good day on the water?

I won't watch it, instead I'll go fishing and maybe watch a sunrise or sun set and catch supper. I guess I could buy a patch for my hat too just to have something to show for my efforts.

I am going to take a guess here that Olympic fishing will not be the kind of fishing that your are thinking of but more like the european match fishing where teams compete using 30'poles and 1# line catching fish that we would not even use as bait. In the true Olympic 90% of the sports there now should not be. As the original was based on an individual in running and strength contests. I don't remember the Greeks playing much softball or speed skating. If fishing is entered I can see berry and nut gathering not to far behind. With that said I don't want to start a debate about the Olympic set up just making a point for say the x games. Sometimes old should be kept old and new should find it's own niche.

Jackpine so are the athletes in the olympics. No way I can play basketball with Mike Jordan or Shack! The olympics are the best athletes day in and day out on any playing field and I believe the upper level tourney guys are the best fisherman day in and day out on any body of water.

The one thing that I found wierd was drug testing Bass fishing pros. I don't see the point of it. You can be big as an ox and still catch nothing.

I think they are worried about drugs like, speed, booze, painkillers etc. I doubt they are worried about Gary Roach taking steroids. wink.giftongue.gif

First Welcome to FM, They definitely can be caught during the day but the water is really clear usally on that lake and I have found over the years of fishing it that the evening into the dark bite can be way better. Don't rule out trying to target those fish you saw.  Some options are fishing  on a cloudy day, or try down sizeing your presentation as you may surprise yourself and put a few topside.

Electrical tape for me nice and smooth. If your worried about the residue at the end of the season a little tip is rub  toothpaste on the cork work it around then wash in water.  Cleans them up takes the scum off and they look good as new when done.

I broke a bunch also at first  my bear paws just squeeze a little to hard! You definitely need to be carefull when putting them on to much pressure and another one bites the dust. Great bobber and concept can be used for a slip or fixed bobber just a little fragile.

      Some good sticks there!

Looks good Royce hopefully you can put it to good use soon. The ice is sure getting thick if it keeps up I will be ordering a extension for my K drill soon or bring out the  StrikeMaster and extension.

Looks like I need to resurrect this one... sorry for the long delay...  It's been a whirlwind of a winter already. A couple dozen guide trips in the books and over a dozen different lakes across the Metro and surrounding areas.  Chisago... to Minnetonka... to Clearwater... to Prior... to Big Marine... and other places in between. The good news:  we have good ice and the season is definitely in full-swing!  It's making up for past years! That being said... big word of the day... WEEDS, WEEDS, WEEDS!!!  The biggest fish are constantly coming out of the weeds.  Sure there are numbers out deeper and throughout the basins, but if you want to consistently catch big Metro fish (panfish) then focus on the weeds.  Even larger walleyes are coming from the weeds.  Spend some time with the underwater camera and/or sight-fishing... force yourself to get out of your comfort zone and fish in the weeds (if you don't already).  Also turn to plastics instead of live-bait.  These few ARE feeding, they are not dormant.  Fish plastics and get after 'em! I've spent most of my time targeting fish in less than 20 feet of water.  You basin bite is holding fish during low-light though, so if you're going to hunker-down over a deeper pod of fish then make sure the focal point is sunrise and sunset, otherwise chase-down the shallow fish during the day and stay moving until you find biting fish.  Our best bites are mid-day in the weeds... or those first couple hours after sunrise on some lakes.  Haven't had to focus on the night-bite a whole lot, but if that's your window of fishing then definitely go for it--you'll still get bit! The tip-ups have been a little quite lately. Haven't put a ton of time into them, but they haven't been flying much. A handful of small pike, that's about it. Might need to go on a tip-up excursion soon though! Hopefully everyone is out enjoying the season! Good luck, be safe, and have fun!
