Lura Bass Tourney

6 posts in this topic

One-person bass contest this Saturday on Lura for all of you non-duck hunters. I don't know all the details, but contact Chad Jacobsen @ 507.327.3797 if you are interested.

I believe it is open to 30 boats with a payout that day, then the top half finishers will fish again on Sunday on a lake to be determined later. Only $40 per person is what I remember.

Look for some nice pigs to be caught on Lura!

Are you fishing it katoguy? I think it would be fun, but we will be at the Twins game tomorrow. Please post results if you get a chance.

Nope, not fishing it. Busy this time of year.

I was out yesterday afternoon on Tetonka and hammered 'em. Went to the last Thursday niter last night on Washington. Bad fishing there (just as it has been for 2 years out there for bass). Something is wrong on Washington and I think it deals with the weed spraying.

I agree with you on Washington. What was the winning weight last night, by the way? I'm also in agreement with large fish being weighed-in from Lura tomorrow. Oh well, hopefully I'll get out somewhere on Sunday, as the weather report sounds good.

9.85# on three fish. Any 3 of those fish would have been big fish of the night. I didn't see another 2-pounder weighed. After that there were two weights in the 5 pound range and down hill from there.

I'll be out someplace on Sunday. (I have the afternoon off and should fish today, but I will be heading up to MSU for some homecoming festivities. MSU grad class of '91)

Homecoming huh? You might need until Sunday to recover! Yeah, Sunday sounds really nice weather-wise, just not sure where I'm going to go yet.

Also, I believe Gabby has decided to run his circuit for another year? That's good if it's true.

Headed up this weekend and next weekend.  WIll be fishing mostly Frazer.  Sounds like the hatch is on.  If anyone has been fishing walleye on frazer in the past few days, got any tips on depth?  Presentation?     Sounds like crawlers are the ticket right now.   Thanks

Boy, some people must just hate their life.

I recommend considering other lakes.  URL by the 4th is nearly void of walleye.  8 years or so ago, we did a two-family trip and only caught fresh water drum.  Star Trib Article

I was honored to be part of the "Veterans on Lake Superior" trip again this year. Channel six did a nice story about the Veterans. They were a great group out on the water.   http://www.kbjr6.com/video?clipId=13445592&autostart=true

Barry is retired. I bought his boat and fished her unitl I got the 38'er. Team Crush is still using the old Whitewater.   Barry does work on my boat occasionally as the first mate.

Hi Cliff -   Thanks for the update on the hatch.  Is this usually a bust for 2 weeks once the big hatches start?  Will be up the 30th-9th, but still excited since its the first time staying for a full week at the in-laws cabin.  Hoping to provide a few updates on the West Side through the week.

Thanks for the info.  I searched before and after this thread for any old threads on this topic.  I got nothing before and this thread is the only one that pops up after.  I will keep looking online or stop at one of the big box stores.    Tight lines.

J-Roy,  I use UL rod and 4 lb a lot when throwing jigs. I have found that the lighter the jig head, the more fish bite and the more you hook. Wind will mess up using light jigs though. When fishing heavy jigs, cranks, top water or spoons, I use heavier line and rod. If fishing weeds need heavy line as well.   Hook ups/bites is much higher with lite jigs. I missed about 50% of hits yesterday using 1/2 oz head. Landed about 90% of hits a few days ago when using 1/8 oz head. Tough to fish 1/8 oz on even 8 lb line so I stick with 4 lb .
