Fall Eye Color Tour

9 posts in this topic

Temps in the mid 70's, blue bird sky, and winds out of the east, it was a great day to take a Fall Color Tour. I appreciate the beautiful of Mother Nature's Fall splendor but it wasn't leaf watching we(fishing partner ReefRaker) sot out. The color was Gold as in Golden Eyes in a particular lake we were after and we weren't disappointed.

I didn't take long to figure out these fish were still on mid lake humps. Topping out at 6' and breaking in to 12' of water we found our Golden Eyes using all of that hump.

We choose a jig and minnow, Scenic Tackles Pro Series Jigs w/Super Sharp Stickkkkky hooks to be exact. The bite was extremely light, couple that with eyes holding tight to the boulders meant you didn't set the hook on everything you felt, you had to feel the difference first. Not once did the tip of my hook curl over from getting a workout in the rocks and that translates to more hookups.

We took home our alloted Gold all in the 16-18" range. My partner released a 24" eye and I CPR'd this 28.5" gal.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't mention the lake because of its small size.

The depths given with structure and presentation could be applied to any area lake.

Oh I know where your thinking. I knew it wasnt that. The shoreline didnt climb enough anyplace. We will have to hit that again this year with the low water up that way this summer. Drop me a e-mail some time and we can see if Im correct. Within 1/2 hr of Duluth?

I used XR5AH (which are 5amp) DeWalt 20v max batteries last winter and never ran out of power.

I scored a set of Striker Hardwaters for 25% off   bibs+coat. I fish early ice alone, decided to pull the trigger on a warm suit that can float if I end up breaking thru.  That crowd was insane. Happy to see the big turnout. All of the TV dudes were roaming around too, talking with ppl and taking pics. Had a great time and I'm happy to see how big the ice fishing community is getting. Just stay away from my holes!!!     jk. Looks like we could be gaining up to an inch of ice/day in metro lakes if this forecast holds.

I was thinking the same thoughts, I saw the pond by my house locked up, figure someone will be sitting in front of the courthouse before you know it..

I have to add that my buddy has had the Eskimo propane auger and loves it, he has a season and half using it and it hasn't given him any problems.
