7 hours till I'm on my way up. This will be my first time ever fishing rainy. I hope the fishing is decent. I have fished sand point and namakan the past two years in spring and fall > i have also fished LOTW's a few times in years gone by but this is my very first time to rainy. I am kinda pre "scouting" for next springs family fishing/camping trip but also looking foward to putting a hurtin on some eyes and maybe a smallie and northern or two. Wish me luck. If you see a green f150 with "fishahollik" on the bug deflector, beep and wave or stop me and say hi. Feel free to offer a map and gps nunbers if your so inclined wink.gif

Well...As far as the fishing went, I am not real impressed.

Randoid and I had a good time but we didn't get alot of fish. The majority of them were under 12". We managed one slot fish (randoid). I had one I am sure was a slot that I "released" boatside, and three nice ones this morning 14-16 inchers. Randoid caught two small pike that smelled really strong and I caught three little smallies and 1 perch.

We fished pretty hard, and tried alot of different places and several different presentations as well as different baits (minnows, crawlers, leeches). All in all it was a fun trip, but not in the top 2 on my "gotta get back there" list.

The "campsite" is a story for another day...

Wade, my interest is peaked, what's the story on the campsite? Did you end up in Lost Bay?

I echo Spearing Machine's comment- Ludlows is a top notch resort. Terrific staff, nice accommodations, and provides a great experience for any staying. Our cabin isn't too far from there and we have family members who stay there often when we run out of space at the cabin and I have stayed there myself as well.

Thanks man, I am really looking forward to deer season now that I'm going to bow hunt.  I have his duck duck goose book and its great. I commonly pluck ducks and geese so i can use that delicious fat.    In that book he had a recipe for duck wing soup and I changed it slightly and made a giant pot of soup with the turkey legs and thighs. It was delicious!

54 degrees saturday in lakes NE of metro.

Well this was fun! I fished a NE metro lake Saturday morning. Found tons of crappies in 4 to 5 feet of water. Water temps around 54 degrees. They were getting demolished by pike in the shallows, what a spectacular show they put on!    Couldn't find a crappie bigger than 8 inches so none were kept then this pike came along. It took about 7 minutes to fight with such light tackle and I thought for sure I'd lose it. I'm a kayak angler so this got really exciting! If the jig didnt set right at the corner of it's mouth of course the line would cut immediately but this still took a lot of careful fighting.    Can't wait for the season to start in a few weeks!!
