Are the cormorants increasing in numbers on Lake of the Woods?

I heard someone this weekend saying that there were estimates of 100,000 birds living up there now.

I don't know how many are in the LOW area, but I was camping at Lake Bronson State Park last weekend and couldn't believe how many there were. I even had one try and land on my boat while out trolling! shocked.gif It came flying up behind me and it's ugly webbed feet just starting to touch down on my boat when I turned around and saw it right behind me!!! Man, did that scare the crap out of me...My wife ran to the front of the boat and my dog even looked unsure of what to do? grin.gif

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
