Water Temps?

What are the water temps running on Mille Lacs?

What depths and structure are the fish holding?

Hopefully we can keep this thread alive till hard water.

JDM,

I was just fishing, I forgot to do the catching part. I was fishing muskies and saw two lazy fish. Very slow.

i heard they were catching some crappies in the marinas on the north end, a guy told me they had a few pounders and a lot of perch in there too. he was pretty pumped to hit it again this weekend.

MN Stuff, Walleye Warrior? I don't know about that, but it was a bit on the cool side when motoring across the lake in the wee hours for sure.

D, we did okay, it was a tale of to halves of the night. We hit the NW side around 6:30, Tim was consistant on slots from 18 to 21.5. but after the first pass in each of our weed spots, it would go cold. I couldn't buy a bite in the weeds this night on FT, or even my go to discontinued Rainbow Trout! He was using a HJ #12 in one our other discontinued colors, which he won't let me mention on here, but it was stellar. We moved to the rocks and I finally lit it up and then Tim went blank. I caught nothing under 23, with a few up to 25.5. on chromes. We ended with about 12 and a couple coming undone on my end. Side note. Once the sliver of moon came out around 12:30 -1pm, we started to hit fish again in the weeds.

Funny story, we left with temps hovering about 22-24 degrees. Tim pulls the slots and puts them in a bag into my live well. We get back to my place and my livewell cover is FROZEN SHUT! We spent 30-45 minutes at 4am using a blow drier on the carpet edge to finally get her loose.

mykal,

what an excellent night! full of memories im sure. i know how cold it can get. when you say a little on the cool side, i bet it was colder than heck... when i was into scuba diving i made some ice dives on mille lacs. but one time was most memorable for all the ice dives and boat dives as far as cold. it was when i had the zodiac w/25hp evenrude. we made a dive on the madera, a wreck thats on the next point north of splitrock lighthouse. it was a perfect situation, we had a spot where we could launch the boat from and it was only a mile or two south of the wreck. it was a norwegian fishing families place. got some of the tastiest laketrout from them. anyway, i cant remember when it was without looking in my dive log (we dove all year round), but on the way back from our dive we didnt even take off our masks because it was so cold. water from the spray was freezing on the tubes. about half way back i had a hard time holding the throttle open because my mitt was a circular block of ice and kept slipping...the things we do for adventure...hahaha. walleye fishing is my adventure now and i injoy it when the stars align. im a little more conservative at my age, but can still fish as long as most. you guys caught 12 in about 6 hours. that averages 2/hr, a great time together with a fishing buddy being outside enjoying nature and just catching up. i really enjoy that about fishing. its a bonus when the walleyes cooperate! haha.

sorry about the frozen live well. a bucket or two of hot water would of solved that a little quicker, but at 4 in the morning after fishing all night, i would of probably left them in there until i slept...hahaha. not really, but thats another good reason i put the keepers right on ice in a small cooler i have. ive never used my live wells.

planning for next saturday...

regards,

minnesotatuff

We were out Saturday night by Garrison from 6-12. Water temp 47.2 when we came off of the lake and air temp of 24. Caught a 24.5 and a 23.5 on the deep side of the weeds and that was it. Caught them both within 50 yards of each other and about 5 minutes apart in about 10 FOW on a "bleeding tiger" thunderstick. We trolled 11.8 miles for 2 fish. Only saw a handful of fish caught before midnight and was too cold to tough it out until the moon came up.

Minnesotatuff, Hot water! crazy.gif We were so tired, I didn't even think of it at the time. It is funny now I think about how long it took to get it open with the blow dryer. Won't forget that one. Hey, maybe well see you on the water soon. Take care.

Fishfearme, 42.7 and skim ice? We had 43.0 Sunday night and snow showers. Sounds like it's still dropping pretty quick.
