Sand, Bowstring and Round Lakes Northern Population

Recommended Posts

All summer we have been accepting input for a DNR proposed special regulation for Sand, Bowstring and Round Lakes in Itasca County. The proposed regulation is a slot limit of 22" to 36" with 1 over 36" able to be kept. In addition, the possession limit would be raised from current 3 to proposed 9. This is in effort to reduce the number of small pike as well as giving anglers the opportunity to keep plenty of fish to make it worth their while to assist in this effort. No, this is not a knee jerk reaction to help the walleye population although it will take some pressure off walleye over the years. This is a 10 year experimental program which can be extended or eliminated based on scientific data at any time. If you would like to comment on this proposed regulation please contact Chris Kavenaugh, Area Fisheries Manager in Grand Rapids MN. His phone number is 218-999-7821. His email is chris.kavenaugh@dnr.state.mn.us.
