Finding Fish on Kab...Lend a Hand!

3 posts in this topic

Hello. I have a group of 6 guys heading to Kab the week after Labor Day. We have been up there a few years in a row; our luck with walleyes has been...poor. And this is with a group that can generally catch fish...generally. Should we just focus on pike and smalleys? Where do these walleyes hang out that time of year? If we should focus on something else...that is fine; we just love the camping, but would sure like some shore-lunch! Thanks folks.

Denny, not a Kab/Nam expert by know means, but I think in general, as the season progress you need to go east. I have been told that by locals and reading this site. But maybe some with more experience can help you a little better.

Denny check out the Voyageur Park Lodge post. Thier is some good recent info on that post that will help your trip out greatly. Enjoy Kabetogama. Scenery is Amazing, brings you right back to fishing Canada as a kid without crossing the border. laugh.giflaugh.gif

Where are all the Duck reports from the almighty Pelican?

Did all this rain fill the lake back up?  I haven't driven by at all.

I bet the crappies and gills are growing nicely.   Soon enough.

    • Yep it is the 3 S's - I just don't think a lot of people are going to be grouse hunting with a shovel - but not a bad idea.

We've got a cabin up on Pelican and I've definitely noticed less cormorants on the lake this summer.  The state did grant the owner of Gooseberry Island a permit to kill cormorants, which was done this Spring.  I talked to a DNR officer on the lake this summer and he said they had shot almost 400 birds, I don't recall the exact numbers but it was somewhere between 350-400.

Thanks for the Update, I think that I did see less birds out on Edwards as well later this summer. Hopefully they shoot 400 more next spring! :)
