this is not a small private lake but this is a common catch in this area. the measurements in the book does not always mean what the fish weighs.this one's for jim & jay.

nite fisher, In-fisherman has a good system to calculate the wieght of released fish.

Measure length X length X length =____ how divide by 1600. this gives you the weight. I have tried it on many bass and it is with-in 4 oz.

For walleyes, length X length X length, then divide by 2700.

I can not think of any lake in the Ely are that would have 5" of ice. Even the beaver ponds in the Tower area barely have ice on them! Cliff

Took a ride around to look at a few lakes today in the Duluth area today.  Needless to say I did not like what I found.  Mostly open water is what I came across.  Any thin ice I found will not be able to hold up to any kind of wind or heavy snow fall.  Come on colder temps...   As always, Take care, Tom (BD110)

Someone is already fishing on 5 inches in Ely. Look up rough fish on google, then go to the first result, then go to "recent forum topics". Neat stuff.

I took my last casts of the year today on the Cannon River, just below the dam at Alexander Park. Now I'm waiting on ice, fingers crossed for Dec 17th as it's a long weekend for me.
