Sorry I missed you Jason. I didn't get your post until today (Monday). I'm going to make it some time this upcoming weekend so maybe I'll see ya down there.

How high is the water?

Oh my God,

I fished all the usual sites we both know of.. for about 3hours and not even a bite, nor a bullhead even. i used cut bait, chicken livers, worms.. i'll try it again this weekend also i think maybe.. i'll find them.

dose the channel cat take the bullheads like the flatheads do. or would it be better to chunk them up in peices.

Nite,

I've heard of channels coming on live bullheads, but either it's going to be a huge channel cat or you're using pretty small bullies. Flatheads just have a much bigger mouth proportionally. I think you're better off with cut bait for channels. I know of some people that have used cut bullies with mixed success. They'll work in a pinch, but there are other, better options. If they're fresh, though, they'd probably be great.

i tried it today with a 3" bully and got a 6lb channel, and also tried cut up bully and same results. but i still like my smelt for channels they work great.

I am no biologist, but I think that flats have an easier time because they crush the prey in their mouths. I am sure channels do too, but the wide mouth of a flathead is more accomidating to a large, spiney bully.

Pug, you've never stuck a finger in a channel cat's mouth, have you? They crush clams easily, and I'm sure a big one could probably break your finger.

you bring up a good point, in the summer when there available fresh clam meat is awesome channell cat bait.

And those big ones have alot of bite pressure, Im betting that a 20 pound chanell could easily break a finger!

Hey Ralph, You might need a pair of good leather gloves before lipping a 20# channelevillol.gif

I've got to make some time and go check a few Crow River spots!

Dark, first, I'll worry about catching that 20lb channel cat, then I'll worry about it crushing my fingers tongue.gifgrin.gif

Report

Was out yesterday afternoon. Caught 3 cats, a bass, a redhorse and a few small bullies. I started out with the night crawler with limited sucess, then I caught a frog sitting near shore. The frog was the key. I caught two 4-5lb cats on it and then a 8-10lber that finally made the frog disappear. These fish were caught in not the greatest looking water either.

I did try cut sucker and live bullie in a really good looking spot[under the bridge by the millside tavern] to no avail.

I wish I could find more frogs!
