Any thing happening on Gilstad. I might have to stop on the way to my cabin. Also are the fish big on this lake ?

Thanks

Gilstad puts out pretty decent numbers of panfish, but you really have to work to find some keepers. There are a lot of smaller fish in Gilstad, but it's a great lake to take the young anglers to because of the action and to teach them their fishing skills. You can also find some decent bass in Gilstad. Work the weedlines and you'll have pretty good action, again there are some decent ones in there but there are a LOT of small ones (we just did catch and release the other day with just a couple that would've been considered keepers, but the kids had fun). FYI~The water level is up on Gilstad this year, we were there the other day and the water was almost level with the dock, and the little ramp that leads to the dock is under the water.

Day two was a bit different than day one for us.  Much slower mid day resulting 50 fish for the day.  A couple of 23" being the biggest.    ESE wind caused a different approach Today that challenged me a bit.  As well as the river was VERY BUSY today!   Water conditions appeared to stay fantastic as far as current and clarity,  should be a nice week ahead for those coming up.

We have fished both days out of Vidas.

Buddy of mine just drove past the Big and Littlefork rivers on hwy11, said ice bank to bank on both. Even saw fresh tracks from snowmobiles on them. So for whatever that's worth guys and gals.

Took the boat out on Cedar Island today.  Water was 39 and crappie were deep.  Large bay at access was iced over but could hug the shore and make it around.  Otherwise it was mostly open.

Tipups we are between Springsteel and Warroad right now. Still driving trucks and wheelhouses out about 24" of ice.
