The Spawn

i am looking to do some fly fishing for the crappies during the spawn. do these little devils come into the shallows at all (like 4 feet or less?) do you have any idea what time of spring this happens? thanks for the info.

They come into the shallows in spring to feed but they actually spawn in early summer in deeper water. I would think you could get into them with a fly rod if you get a nice calm day.

The spawn is dependent on the water temp. I have caught them shallow when they are spawning, 4ft and less. It could happen in late may or early june. Its up to the weather and Ma Nature.

I've caught crappies before on a beadheaded prince nymph. Kinda fun. What do you use to catch'em?
