Fishguy.......remember when, uh, in 93, and uh, in 94, uh, when the Sox were awesome, and, uh, in the 90's, uh the Sox had the best record in the 90's, uh, other than the Braves, and uh.......

Keep living in the past.

This is 2005, and we have reason to be excited. What happened last year, or for the past 3 years, is history. If the Twins had won the world series, or a pennant for that matter, then your smack talk would have some meaning.

And here's a tidbit, buzzkill.........the sox have played one more game than the twins. Unless they pitch a shutout, sox will have a better era.

Sox have more stolen bases.......ha ha.

Sox have more strike outs per nine innings......ha ha

Sox have a lower batting average against.......ha ha.

the list goes on and on.

At the end of the day, what counts are W's. And as of today, we lead that most important category.

Another thing. The Sox have played 30 games against teams that are above .500. 19-11

Twins have played 22 games against teams that are above .500. 10-12

If we only had it so lucky to be playing teams like Colorado all the time like the twins.

Buzzkill,

Game....yes.

Set.....not yet, there's one more game to complete the set. Remember, we one the first game. Don't jump ahead of yourself, now.

Match, not yet either. There's one more game to complete the match. You're tennis terms are used rather loosely. Maybe I can recommend a rules of tennis book to you.

Dude your white sux team has had the talent too win the division for about 5 years in a row now. Twins fans have every right in the world too throw some smack out just on that. The fact that the twins groomed a bunch of prospects into 3 straight division crowns over those underachieving sux makes it just that much more. Not winning a World Series doesnt diminish how your sux have underachieved and its been the twins thats beat them out 3 years in a row. Thats what smack and bragging rights are about. We've seen this scenario in the past couple years, we arent dumb. The sux have been in this position before. We listened too sux fans last year talking at the break when they have a 5 1/2 game lead. Look where it all ended up, how many games back? It wasnt even close. If i were a sux fan i would hesitate too talk a whole lot until the final game has ended. Its like this year when the vikes start 6-1 again, i'll be excited no doubt, but too pencil them into the superbowl after how the last couple years have gone? No! Thats common sense dude. Seems you dont have much of that too reason with.

Here, I had a weak moment Windy and Commanche, I'll give your team props for having the best or second best (whatever it is) record in baseball up to this point. But two things to consider, do you think your team will continue to be that consistantly good? and if so, why? plus the Twins have the third best record in baseball and were on your heels... you've gotta give some.... lets drop the smack talk one day a week and point out the positives about each others team... you first tongue.gif I'm not even sure the other Twins fans would partake in this let alone you... but maybe it will bring a little more civility to these baseball threads.... even though the smack talk is fun and should in no way ever stop! What do you think about calling Sunday a day of peace.. there, I went and thought outside of the box. grin.gif

I'll say this... Garland, Konerko, Hermanson, Contrerass, El Poopy, and a few other guys on your team are having career years and it seems Guillen is a decent manager/motivator...

Onto another subject, we both know without winning division titles or a wildcard position you have no chance to even get to the World Series... so you cannot in any way say that winning the division means nothing when in fact we all know it is an accomplishment to be proud of and a neccesity to get the chance to win it all! arghhhhhh, my moment of weekness is over.... must end pooooost beeefore I start spitting vennnnnnom again. tongue.gif

Hey Buzz,

If you think that Saturday's finish was exciting, you must have been beside yourself on Friday when the ole Cubbie Hee Sopp Choi took your beloved out of the game with THE WALK OFF HOMER to defeat the Twinks. Now that was an exciting finish to a great game, another Twink loss.

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

Well I was with ya for a little while anyway.

I believe Ozzie is by far the worst manager in Baseball.

The guy trys to give away games but the Sox won't let him he's TERRIBLE.

To go along with the worst announcers in Baseball did anyone catch the end of the game those two little homer babys were speechless when the Sox blew it, I thought they were going to cry. grin.gif

I will agree.......Hawk and DJ could be the worst in history. We do, on the other hand, have 2 of the best radio announcers in John Rooney and Ed Farmer. Turn down the TV and turn up ESPN 1000. I will be shocked if someone disagrees with this.

Although........no I wouldn't be shocked.

Come on Commanche,

Don't go bailing on the ole Hawkeroo. The guy is a classic. I see him from time to time at Jack Gibbons having a few cola's and watching him hold court at the bar while I devour a 30 oz king cut bone in prime rib. As for baseball in the toddlin' town tonight it was the curse of the former Cubbies. Hee Seop took care of the Twinks this past weekend but Dontrelle dealt the Cubbies and boy did Estes deal our beloved. Oh well, only counts as one game and the Twinks are still 5 games behind. I am doing well with my prediction that they will be down by 9 games by the end of June. Maybe the Pads can finish them off.

How is the bar coming? Can't wait to tip a few. May even get the Hawkaroo to come in and christen the place. Later, Windy. And as usual...

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!

I'll give you guys credit that your team is doing well, but Hawk is the biggest moron in all of baseball. I've never listened to a guy that was a bigger homer in my life. He's classic alright. A classic moron! tongue.gif

You guys got blasted by a "mediocre" Arizona team tonight like 10-4... how could that happen when you have such a great pitching staff???

I heard the Arizona fans in Chicago this week have cleaned out the local Wal-marts/Home Depots and Sears stores of their broom supply!! Must be something happening in the Windy city????

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
