I have 7 spots left to fill, so we would be happy to have you along. You can send me the monies to cover the number of seats you want, or if you want to wait till the day of the launch I can do that as well. The launch is on regaurdless of how many people show up.It is open to any one who wants to go, if you need lodging I would call Fishers resort right away. They are most likely to fill up very soon, the grouse hunters will have the rest of the cabins booked.I have a large cabin booked my self, but you would have to share it with my girl friend, daughter and me.I don't know how that would work out though.Girl friend might not like it.
Send me an email for address to send money or let me know for sure your going.I will post your user ID as going then.
Thanks, Benny

MT-POCKETS, I have tried several times to send you an Email but it keeps coming back undeliverable due to a virus calles JS/Fortnight.gen@m.
I have scanned my system several times, loged on to Symantic and had them scan my system for this and nothing was found.Symantic (Norton AntiVirus ) said it could be incoded in the mail you sent me and your system may be the carrier.
I recamend a ful system scan to see if it is hiding in there some where.

You got them, there are 5 spots still open now.MT just filled two, it is looking like we will have a full launch now.

MT, if you need lodging you best call Fishers right away.
There are a couple other resorts real close by that may have some thing open yet as well.

When I was at the fair I found a guy there who said he could print up hats for the launch.BUT they are $15 to $18.00 per hat, and I don't know that I could get them done by the date now.
If every one really wants one I can get them made up, I think they are too expensive my self though.

Still looking for 4 more interested in having a little fun on the Saturday night launch chasing those big walleyes on Mille lacs.

Who else is interested, Sept 20th 8-Midnight out of Fisher's Resort?

[sorry about the time mix-up. I fixed it]

Hi Benny,

What kind of tackle do you think we should bring?

Slip float rigs/lighted bobbers?
Bottom bouncers?
Cranks?

Thanks for the heads up. grin.gif

Hi Skeets, I think as most launchs go they should have everything we need.I read some where that some launch captains prefer you use their tackle as they have it all set up for the style of fishing the are going to do.
If you bring your own tackle and need it riged up they have to spend extra time rigging it for you.

I would assume that you can bring your own gear if you really want to though.

If your talking about tackle for fishing on your own off the launch, I would suggest a smorgus board. This is a transitional time of year, so any thing from jigs to live bait rigs can work.
A lot of crank bait trolling goes on this time of year as well, so some cranks can't hurt.

I personaly carry a ton of tackle, some times two very large soft sided bags full.
But I supply tackle for three of us to so it helps to have tripple of the major tacle that usually works smile.gif

My game plan is to hit the rocks Friday night, and try some slip bobbers. Then Saturday late morning I may travel out to the flats and pull some rigs around.
But I am not at all sure as of yet what Saturday will bring.I might have to much fun just shooting the BS with all the great FM people I hope to meet.

Thanks for the tip Derek.

For those of you who don't know Derek, pay attention when he gives advice. He's usually on the money when it comes to fishing Mille lacs. smile.gif

He's also the one who organized last years launch outing and filled a Launch and then part of another.

We still have 3 seats left.

Won't you join us for a little FM family outing?

TRZ ,sure you can settle up at the resort.
It looks like there will be people ariving at all times and some on Saturday as well.
I plan on leaving here at 2 or 3 PM so I should be there around 5 PM maybe sooner.
I am thinking of taking a half day of vacation so I can make sure I get everything packed.

MT Pockets, do you have a marine radio in your boat?If so what chanel and handle do you use?
I usually stay on 68,69 or 16 depending on who is up there that day. This weekend I will be on 68 or 69 most likely. And I use Benny as a call sign of coarse.

I may share a piece of trivia about how I got my nick name while we are out on the launch, but I want to see if any one can guess after they meet me face to face.

TWO seats left now, I can fill them with my daughter and lady friend but they think it will be too cold to be out there that long.
So if any one wants in nows the time to speak up, other wise I may ask if there are a walk in or two and maybe convert us a new member.

Hi Mike, you missed a great time.Fishing was real slow, but there were a few fish that bit the hooks.
I think there was two nice Walleyes caught some thing like 17-1/2 inches and not sure on the other one. There were a few small walleyes and a few jumbo perch. And I think one nice pike got hauled in.

The best part was all the great people that showed up, lots of jokes, stories, and ribbing from all.I ended up with enough door prize trinkets for everyone, not any thing real great but there was a big fish and small fish pot that was pretty nice jing.

I learned a lot about how to organize an event, so next years will be more structured and better timing.
The only negative point was the launch departure time did get changed, I should have called last week to make sure it was at 8PM .I never did hear why they changed it, just over heard the captain talking on his cell phone about some kind of familly issues so maybe that's why they changed the time on me.

I would like to thank everone who showed up, it was a great pleasure to meet everone and to make new friends from all around Minnesota and Iowa.
Thanks Rick,Bob,Brian,Tony,Dave, and all thier quest they brought allong.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

👍. What was the water temp in Black Bay? Thanks....

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
