Recommended Posts

I have the night launch at Fishers booked for the 20th of September!
I have to go by a first in first on board for the spots available on the launch.
Fisher's said they only take out 20 people on the night launch due to line tangle problems when windy.

So the first people to get thier deposit in to me will be first on board Saturday night.
I have to get with Rick to see if he can swing us a discount, but for now if you want to send me your deposit just send me an Email with your number and address and I will send you mine.

I will keep a running log book to keep everything in order and will post the user names of those already paid up.

Now the lodging is up to you, as of this morning the whole resort is open for lodging.I booked one cabin for Friday and Saturday nights , if there is room for any one I will post it later.
Thier web site is www.fishersresort.com and is listed in the resort finder of this forum board. All thier accomodations are listed and prices also.

Please hurry to get your cabin or camp site reserved so we can take up the whole place.

If there are a lot of people who want to go on a launch and don't mind the day or evening run, there is still open launches.
They may be walk on only but not sure?

Well lets get the list going, send email to address below.I check it regularly and will respond as soon as I get home from work each night.

Thanks, Benny

I called Fisher's. Greg wasn't in and I left my number for him to call back.

I'll ask about the discount when he gets back to me. I'm not sure where he's at right now.

Benny, if you talk to Fisher's you can let them know it's an FM gathering and ask about a discount too.

Rick, I assume he knows it is for us.When I booked it he called me back to make sure I knew there were only 20 seats on the evening launch. He told me at that time he saw the thread on the web site and he thought we might be planning on way more than the amount of people he can take out.

I assured him I was planning on a first come first on board way to fill the seats.
I didn't ask for a discount at that time because I didn't want to over step any boundries as this is my first time taking on the booking of a launch party.
I have always been the ride along before.

Come on people, there are 10 seats taken so far.The cabins are open yet as of yesterday, so be sure to get an early reservation so we can book up the whole resort.
I know there would be too many people to all get on the launch if we book the whole place, but I am sure there will be fun for every one and there should be a few boat owners that could take out an extra person or two.
There should also be a day time launch for those that would like to go out but don't have a boat and can't get in on time for the evening launch.

Fishers number is 1-866-684-2221 cabin prices are listed at their web site also.

Thanks, Benny

p.s Got three more spoken for tonight.Only 10 seats left.

Yes, we had people bring thier own boats last year and Fishers has a nice access for your boat. Just be sure to book your cabins now before the hunters do...
I think the cabin rates are less in Sept. I got my cabin for less than what the website says..

Good point on the hunters, Derek.I forgot about them and you know they will be booking it up soon.
My duck hunting partner is headed out to the Dakotas for the 4th of july, to visit relatives and to book our hotel rooms for the opener and the second weekend we go out.

Maybe I missed it here, but did you post the current cost for the launch before any discounts?

Rick swung us a deal for the day or evening launchs, and personal boat launchs.

The cost for the night charteded launch is $27.50 each person. It works out like this, $500 for the launch and a $50.00 tip for the captain. If you want to give more of a tip please do, if you send the extra to me be sure to let me know that it's for the launch tip.

Sorry but I was informed that there is no discount for the night launch. So the price is what it is.

There are 10 spots left on the night launch, as Rick posted in the other thread there are open seats to be reserved for a day or evening launch as well.

I'll have to check with Huskminn, but my I guess is we are in. I am sure I will be doing the hunting thing again during the day and then get out on the launch at night. It's a ways off, but I am looking forward to it!

Harmonica Bear, yes the date is a ways off but over half the night luanch seats are filled already. And the cabins are starting to get booked, I don't know if they are booked with FMers or not.I hope we can fill the whole resort so it would be an all FMer weekend there.
Don't delay to long, at least get a cabin or a camp site.

Only 8 seats left, I don't know if the resort is filling up yet though.
Paul said the piggy roast is still going, sounds like we are in for a great time.

I have rented cabin six , it sleeps 3 to 5 people if any one needs a bed to crash on there are 4 more open.
Cost is $75 for double occupancy + $5.00 bucks a person over that,Per night.

I also have an open seat in the big Ford for the trip up, I am bringing my boat along as well as the shot gun for the grouse action.

Thought I'd give this a little bump, as I would like to see it turn out to be a successful event.

Unfortunately, I can't commit to taking part. There are just too many pending issues to allow me to plan that far in advance. You hear that, HB?

However, if the weekend ends up open, you can bet I'll stop by to check on Derek's progress with the mouth harp and try to get an accurate count on the number of walleyes landed.

rmh2o,as far as I know at this time the piggy roast is still on for Saturday evening before the launch.About 5 PM I would say.Paul is taking care of the piggy though.

Thanks huskminn, I only have one person paid up for two spots on the launch. We need to get some more people going at this point, I understand that some people won't commit till the last few weeks or so.I have a friends softball team waiting to go if I can't fill the launch with FM people.FMer's get first crack right up till the last week.
I have no Idea how full the resort is by now, I assume there are still open cabins yet.

I have some nice hats and dicount cards for a fellow FMer's online store to give away as a door prizes and big fish awards.
Working on getting a discount on some FM Minn Fall Launch hats made up, but these people take forever to get back to me.

I still haven't heard back from the hat printers to get a price for some hats that show you attended the launch trip.Maybe they are to busy to make more?

Skeets, I have only posted those members who have sent the money to cover their spots. So far only one person has sent in money.
There are a few people who have said they were going though, just have to read a few of the posts to see who all said "sign me up".

I will refund every ones money if for some odd reason we can't fill the launch.
I have asked a friend if he would help fill vacant seats with his workers or soft ball team members. But all FMer's get first chance to go.
You will have to set up your own lodging as well, but as it stand right now I have lots of space in the cabin I reserved.
I can even give some one a ride up and back, I have a newer super cab truck so I can fit a few people in for the ride there and back.

I'm in for sure Benny,
I'll take care of my portion directly with Fisher's.

I also have a cabin with room to spare and I'm driving up from Owatonna for anyone who would like a ride from Southern MN.

Those of you who are joining in, please contact Benny and get the money in to him as soon as possible.

The 1st 17 people to pay(3 spots gone already) are in I assume.....is that correct Benny?

Are there any other wifes going?
She dosen't want to be the only female there...you know how it is! grin.gif

We might stay at the casino that evening, haven't decided yet.

Shoot me an email on where to send the check to, or we can settle up with Fisher's when we arrive, too.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
